HiFiTri

I've never been to the HiFiTri.

This triathlon is held at Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX Oct. 25-26, 2008. It looks like it will be the same course as the Lone Star Tri, which I just completed this weekend ! We are actually contemplating doing this triathlon in the fall. Even though it will (most likely) be the same course, it might be fun to see if we can improve over the next few months.

termfinder.com

I've never been to termfinder.com.

For those who travel often, finding good life insurance can be an important decision to make. Making sure that things are in order for those left at home is of utmost importance. Being able to find and compare term life insurance quotes online makes this task a little easier. It's free and simple and keeps you from being bothered by several different agents.

Free CPR Class

I've never been to a free CPR class.

Coming up soon our community EMS will be hosting free CPR classes for local citizens. I think this is an excellent idea! According to their article, nearly 325,000 deaths in the U.S. result from adult coronary disease.

At this local class, instructors will teach CPR for adults, children and infants as well as how to help someone who is choking. Classes will begin every 30 minutes from 8am to 3pm on Saturday May 17. Training will be held at League City Civic Center. With citizens attending this free course, it is hopeful that more lives will be saved.

Hilton Head

I've never been to Hilton Head.

Hilton Head Island is one of South Carolina's most popular beach areas. It is the second largest barrier island on the East Coast. Because of its lush, marshy beauty, over 1 million visitors each year choose Hilton Head for their vacation destination.

Being surrounded by the Calibogue Sound, the Intracoastal Waterway, the Broad River, and the Atlantic Ocean make water sports an obvious favorite activity at Hilton Head. Wind surfing, wave running, kayaking, sailing, dinner cruises and fishing are some of the activities of choice. Hilton Head rentals make the perfect destination for family reunions, family vacations or a romantic getaway.

The Ultimate Field Trip

I've never been to The Ultimate Field Trip .

Not being tied to the public school calendar makes it easy for these families to enjoy the park at a time when the crowds are low. This years dates for the Ultimate Field trip are Sept. 1-7. You will get Disney discount packages, stay in Disney resorts, customizable tickets and dining options, and special Disney group events!

Clear Debt Solution

I've never been to Clear Debt Solution.

These days, many people are finding themselves having to seek credit card debt relief. Maybe your last vacation did you in. Maybe your last trip to the grocery store did it. It is so easy to get into trouble with credit cards, and so difficult to work your way out of it. One of the first things that caught my eye at Clear Debt is the fact that they help you weigh all your options, from debt settlement, debt consolidation, bankruptcy to doing nothing! It seems like a wise idea to explore every option then decide which will work best for you to help you become debt free.

kite festival

I've never been to a kite festival.

While shopping the other day, I heard about an upcoming two day kite festival. I thought I knew the town that this event was taking place. But on my way to the beach last week, we passed by a sign that said "kite festival" and I realized that this was the place!

It will take place on Apr. 12-13 at Highland Bayou Park. This park is at Exit 10 off of I45 follow the service rd going south. Park entrance will be on right after Oasis RV Park in La Marque, TX. Activities include a free kite workshop for 50 kids each day, fun flying for everyone, demos and more! This is a nearby event that I hope we can make it out to!

new gym

I've never been to the new gym to work out.

They built a new gym not too far from us. I have gone to use the pool but have not made it over to the cardio room to check out the equipment they have. Between the weight machines, elliptical machines and the treadmill, I stick to going over to the YMCA, since it's closer and my daughter can go with me. I need to give the new gym a try while it's all still new.

the beach at nightfall

I've not been to the beach at nightfall in a long, long while...

but today I was able to take my kids out for a couple of hours. We had a nice time and discovered that going in the late evening is a great time to avoid most of the crowds. We simply sat and ate, relaxed, walked out on the jetty, and walked on the rocks. The full moon over the ocean added a bright beautiful sight.

The Dark Sky Festival

I've never been to the Dark Sky Festival.

This event open to the general public looks awesome!! The goal of the Dark Sky Festival is to encourage people to turn off unneeded artificial outdoor lighting and enjoy the view of the night sky free from "light pollution."

I can remember a few times being out in the country and observing the brilliant beauty of the stars. It is amazing just how clearly they can be seen when one is out away from artificial lighting. At one family reunion, we spent some time at an observatory. Absolutely amazing! I am sure the Dark Sky Festival will be just as amazing, if not more!

There are so many activities available for families to attend. There will be numerous telescopes for folks to look through. There will be presentations by scientists and astronomers, nocturnal animals to meet, a Kids’ Zone, food and music! You can hear speakers talking about “Myths if the Night”, speakers on environmental issues, and hear legendary Motown recording artists Rare Earth.

The festivities will be held April 5 beginning at 7 pm and will last until about 11pm. It will be at Harmony Town Square, Harmony Florida. This night is sure to bring some outta sight fun for all who are able to attend.

Get Ready! This Year’s Dark Sky Festival is Out-of-this-World

HARMONY, FL – March 15, 2008 – The 5th Annual Dark Sky Festival at Harmony will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Sponsored by the Harmony Institute, the Kissimmee Convention and Visitors Bureau, several astronomy clubs, the Osceola News Gazette and Florida Travel & Life Magazine, the event will kick off at 7pm in Harmony's Town Square.

“The Dark Sky Festival is intended to celebrate and promote the benefits of a night-sky free from the effects of excessive artificial lighting,” said Greg Golgowski, Harmony’s Conservation Director and a key member of the Dark Sky Festival Planning Committee. “Poor outdoor lighting not only washes out the splendor of the heavens, but also reduces visibility at night, wastes energy, and disturbs wildlife.”

As with the past four Dark Sky Festivals, attendees will be able to enjoy viewing the night skies through a variety of telescopes. There also be lots of music and food, numerous specialty booths, an educational zone with presentations from astronomers and other scientists, nocturnal creatures, a Cosmic Kids Zone and so much more.”

Local favorite, the Silver Clouds Orchestra, will start the entertainment portion of the evening at 7:00pm. This will be followed by a free concert by legendary recording artists, Rare Earth.

Rare Earth will take to Harmony’s outdoor amphitheatre stage at 8:00pm for a live concert chock full of their greatest hits including “Get Ready” and “I Just Want to Celebrate.”

“We are ecstatic to have Rare Earth performing at this year’s Festival,” said Shad Tome, president of Harmony Development Group. “We are encouraging everyone to wear comfortable shoes because Rare Earth is known for getting the whole audience up and dancing.”

The festival will be emceed by Magic 107.7’s afternoon drive on-air personality and program director Ken Payne.

The Festival is open to the general public. Over 3,500 people are expected to attend the event this year. The event will conclude around 11:00pm.

This date was selected because it falls on the heels of National Dark Sky week (March 29 – April 4); where people in the United States are encouraged to turn out their unnecessary outdoor lights in order to temporarily reduce light pollution.

balloon twisting classes

I've never been to balloon twisting classes.

Last week as part of our family outing we ate dinner at Outback Steakhouse . One of the best parts of the evening was the balloon man who was there. He made a crazy rhino hat for my son and a really unique and cute dog for my daughter. We were all impressed by this new balloon toy.

The man took a yellow balloon, blew it partially up, and twisted the end til it came off. He then somehow sealed it back up so it stayed inflated (for a short while). This was a piece of "macaroni" that my daughter's balloon dog was going to eat. Then, the guy twisted a clear balloon into part of a dog shape. He pushed the yellow "macaroni" til it went inside the clear balloon and knotted the clear balloon back up. Then he finished twisting the dog design until we had a balloon dog with a piece of macaroni that it had eaten!

basketball banquet

I had never been to a basketball banquet before.

My son's basketball team had their first annual banquet this week. I bought a new dress and we both dressed up to attend the dinner. When we got there, I was disappointed to find out that the players don't sit with their family. It never occurred to me. The food was ok and the entertainment was not my style. I did enjoy seeing that my son was chosen as one of four to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. I was also pleased to see that both an invocation and benediction prayer were said.

workoutwarehouse

I've never been to workoutwarehouse before.

After my work out today, I am in no mood to see more fitness equipment! I swam twelve laps, ran a little over three miles and went to an hour long spinning class this morning! I'm tired!

But if you are in the market for some new exercise equipment, now may be the perfect time. There is a free shipping offer on select items, and by signing up for the newsletter, you are eligible to win a "hot cross buns" cross training exercise machine!

Hannah Montana Look Alike Contest

I've never been to a Hannah Montana look alike contest.

While visiting the boardwalk last weekend, we headed over to the stage area and we came across this contest. It was an effort by these girls to win tickets to the sold out Hannah Montana show at the livestock show the next day. We did not care too much to stay around watching, as the performance was already done, though we did see one teenaged girl who REALLY did look like Hannah Montana! However, we did stick around when we saw the MC...this was a really great impersonator of Robin Williams!!

The guy REALLY REALLY looked like a young Robin Williams and he had many of the mannerisms and phrases down pat! Many people hung around getting photos of him. My son is convinced that Robin was really there in person!

home insurance quotes

I've never been to get a home insurance quote.

My husband usually takes care of all that. But I know that it is an important procedure. For new home owners, it is wise to get several quotes in order to compare and make the best choice. It has become easier than ever to get home insurance quotes. You can simply provide the necessary info online and within a matter of minutes, you can get free quotes from local agents.

The Bullet

I had never been to ride the Bullet before.

This past Saturday, we took the kids out to the boardwalk to just spend some time together for a change. As we have not been in several years, there were some changes for us to try out. Among the biggest and best was the new wooden roller coaster, the Bullet. It is reminiscent of the Cyclone from Astroworld. The first time I rode it, I really enjoyed it. The second ride seemed faster than the first, and also more rough. The third and last time I rode it, I had had enough, as it was a really rough ride.

It was a good coaster ride, fast and furious and the kids loved it. I wouldn't mind riding it again, but I'll need a good break in between rides!

spring cleaning your body

I've never been to buy a colon cleanser.

I have read that it is good to detoxify your body four times a year-with the change of each season being a great time to do one. With spring just around the corner, now is a good time to consider doing a cleanse. Getting rid of the toxins built up in your body, getting your body healthy from the inside out, just in time to enjoy the coming warmer weather. What better way to conduct a true "spring cleaning"?

Savannah

I've never been to Savannah.

This city is apparently rich in Southern history. From the Revolutionary War to Civil War to the home of the founder of the Girl Scouts, Savannah has much history to offer tourists. Some friends of mine just got back from a lovely weekend in Savannah. These girls donned their travelin' shoes to see the many sites of the city. From Mrs. Wilkes house for lunch to the colonial cemetery, from Forsyth Fountain and the Pulaski monument, from the draw of the Atlantic ocean, Spanish moss dripping from trees and folks with a Southern drawl, Savannah has much to take in.

I've never been on The Scholar Ship.

This new endeavor is done by collaboration between Royal Caribbean and seven international universities. It is an opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate students to live in a multicultural environment and travel the world all while gaining academic experience. These students gain so much from their travels and their interactions, giving them a unique opportunity to learn during their sixteen week voyage. The students spent time in eight ports of call in the Mediterranean, South America, South Pacific, Australia and Asia.

home theater

I've never been to buy home theater chairs.

I think my kids would really go for that! Comfy, lounging chairs for watching movies; recliners, armrests, even two seaters-all would make for extra comfort when watching their favorite movies. Or maybe one of those new interactive gaming chairs. They could really get into their video games then.
