10K Open Water Swim

I've never been to a 10K open water swim.

I am not sure I've even ever swam a mile in open water. I can't imagine swimming six! But it seems that now there is a 10K open water swim in the Olympics, more people are getting involved in these type races. Unfortunately, I heard about one swimmer who died this past weekend in just such a race in Dubai. The cause has not been determined but it is known that the water temperature was high and that the swimmer overexerted himself. Hopefully this unfortunate death will lead to better regulations and safety precautions in future races.

Hollywood

I've never been to Hollywood.

Most people wonder how movie stars make their faces look so clean and flawless. Even though they won't admit it, most movie stars had acne problems as a kid, just like everyone else. They found good acne products, and now they have beautiful faces. I would like to get rid of my acne, too, just like the movie stars did. All I have to do is find the best acne treatments available. Then I can have a clean, pretty face, too.

Century Ride

I've never been on a Century Ride.

A Century Ride is a 100 mile bicycle ride. My husband just signed up for one. Maybe one day I will be able to ride that far. The problem for me is that you have to make it to a certain cut off point by a certain time or else be routed to a shorter distance. (I don't know if all rides are like that.) I hope my husband makes it in time and gets to finish the full 100 miles.

Zumba

I've never been to Zumba class.

This seems to be a new craze in exercise. I know it is a type of dance form. Some of the women even wear specially decorated skirts over their exercise clothes, I guess to help get more in the mood of the class? My mother in law enjoys going to her Zumba class and I've seen several other ladies who enjoy it as well. I don't know if it helps you lose belly fat quickly but I know that any exercise you enjoy doing makes it fun and helps you stick with it.

Red Cross Ramble

I've never been to the Red Cross Ramble.

I found another long distance cycling tour. Actually, this one consists of four different mileage choices: 25 miles, 46, 77 or 100. I am hoping to join this one day tour of the southwest Houston area which starts at the George Ranch Historical Park. One point even goes near my grandparents' house. I will need to call them and tell them to come out and cheer us on!

Going Away To College

I've never been to Oklahoma Christian University.

But, like any other incoming freshman, I am both excited and nervous at the same time.  It is a whole new experience.  One thing I want to make sure I have under control when I get there is my skin, because I imagine freshman get enough of a hard time anyway.  I don't need any acne to complicate that.  Thankfully, there is a new acne solution that can keep me looking good and feeling comfortable when I go away.

Anahuac, TX

I had never been to Anahuac, TX before.

But early Saturday morning, I headed out there for the start of the Bike Around the Bay cycling event. It was lots of fun. The volunteers were great throughout the entire course. We started at Fort Anahuac, which is "the site of the first armed confrontation between Anglo-Texans and Mexican troops, on June 10-12, 1832." (Handbook of Texas Online) It was a nice starting point for the 840 riders setting out to bike around the bay.

I did not get to do the second day's ride, but the finish.....

Bike Around the Bay

I've never been to Bike Around the Bay.

I had been thinking of doing this long distance cycling event ever since I heard about it. But knowing that I could only do one day of it, I decided against it. I found out earlier this week that a friend of mine who had already registered had decided to drop the second day and only ride the first day of the event. So I decided to take another look at the event. I found out today that they are accepting riders on the day of the event. So I sent an email asking if there would be a prorated price for one day riders. He told me that he would give me the original early registration fee. So...I am in! Tomorrow I am going to do the first day of the Bike Around the Bay Tour-77.8 miles!

grad night Disney

I've never been to Grad Night Disney.

Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl. is hosting the ultimate senior party night. There are customizable packages available for groups for either weekend, April 29-30 or May 6-7. These packages include hotel rooms, admission to other parks, the graduation party in Magic Kingdom, all taxes and gratuities and one paid chaperone.

two day itineraries

I've never been to get a two day itinerary.

I have noticed that Peregrine Online will now be posting two day itineraries for various cities once a month. Once a base of these itineraries is built up, they will be cataloged into an index. That will be super helpful. Then all I will have to do is to upload them onto my flash drive and I'll have my own database of itineraries of things to see when visiting for just a couple of days.

Paul Bunyan

I've never been to see the Paul Bunyan statue.

Located in Bangor, Maine, the 34 foot tall statue of the legendary lumberjack is a must see. The statue weighs 3700 pounds and can withstand hurricane force winds!

Egyptian door hinge, British Museum

I've never been to see the Egyptian door hinge in the British Museum.

Wondering why door hinges would be placed on exhibit in a museum? This door hinge is inscribed with the names of the God's wives of Amun. These two names were considered to be wives to the god and members of the royal Kushite family. The unique door hinge is placed in the time period of the 25th-26th Dynasty, 760-650 BC.

Blithe Spirit

I had never been to see Blithe Spirit.

We went to a local production last night. It was a bit silly and not really well done. But we enjoyed it and got a kick out of some of the lines and actions. I especially have come to appreciate the scene productions as much as the show. And last night's was great. I don't know how he pulled it off in the last scene, and knowing he has to re-new some parts  for each performance, well, I wonder how he does it!

Our Town

I've never been to see Our Town.

My daughter's friend was in a production, but we missed it. So I was happy to hear that a local community theater is presenting the show. From Oct. 22-Nov. 7, Clear Creek Community Theater will present Our Town. I am anxious to see how the stage manager brings this to life using minimal props.

race for the cure

I had never been to the Race for the Cure before.

This past weekend, we participated in our city's local Race for the Cure in the effort to raise money for breast cancer awareness and local breast cancer health care. We were looking forward to the event and knew it was a big deal. But we were nowhere prepared for the number of people who took part in the event! There were thousands of folks involved. The run was more of a walk and the walk was more of a stroll. Even getting there had traffic backed up for miles! I had to go to the bathroom before we ever even arrived. When I got the chance to stand in a long line for port-a-potties, due to the large crowds I opted to wait. By the time I finally got the chance to find a restroom (four hours later!) I knew I did not need a colon cleansing pill! I am happy though that there were so many people involved.

ghost tour

I've never been on a ghost tour.

All October long, there are three different tours offered in Galveston, TX, one of the "most haunted citites" in America. This can be attributed to the legends surrounding the cannibalistic Karankawa indians. There are also legends of Jean Lafitte and his band of pirates. And there are the many who died in the Great Storm of 1900, and those who lost lives during the mayhem of smuggling liquor during prohibition...as you can see, there are many reasons to take a ghost tour of Galveston Island. This month there are three different tours offered: Ashton Villa's "Are We Haunted?" Tours, Haunted Harbor Tours Aboard SEAGULL II, and "Spirits of the Past" Cemetery Tours. Each tour is offered at different times, allowing you the chance to discover the presence of the dead on the island.

seining

I've never been seining before.

Today my son's marine biology class went to the beach to identify organisms. The kids were met by a naturalist who provide some supplies for them to work with, including a large seining net. It took several kids to get out there and maneuver the net.  Even though it was windy and chilly, there were still a few people out there in their swim suits! I have to say though, our kids were not worried in the least about how they looked, or worrying about extreme weight loss pills; they were busy capturing a few small fish, a crab and a trumpet fish,  and collecting sand crabs and sea shells.
