Star Pizza

I've never been to Star Pizza.

There are two locations in Houston and I have heard good things about the pizza joint. They use fresh wholesome ingredients. Just reading over the menu made my mouth water. We are planning to give Star Pizza a try this weekend. Good healthy pizza is a treat to find!

Crave Cupcakes

I've never been to Crave Cupcakes.

In looking for a place to go in celebration of my husband's upcoming birthday, I looked up Crave Cupcakes website . I had just read about them in a magazine at the dentist office. WOW! It looks and sounds scrumptious! They make their cakes daily with no preservatives and no hydrogenated oils. They are baked throughout the day in small batches to assure that your cupcake will be fresh!

tree sculpture tour

I've never been on a tree sculpture tour.

When hurricane Ike blew through Galveston Island, he left downed trees in his wake. Even though much of Galveston's tree canopy was lost, Island artists found a way to resurrect the trees into images of beauty. Many of the downed trees were turned into gorgeous works of art-tree sculptures! They are located throughout the island in people's yards and gardens and in area parks (photos and a tour guide.) These trees give a victorious feeling of beauty and regrowth to an area devastated yet rebuilding.

swim clinic

I've never been to a swim clinic.

But I sure need one! There is one being offered this weekend by our tri club. It is taught by a competitive swimmer and triathlete. He will focus on strokes and general training. He will also work with athletes one on one to provide specific instruction. He is also going to share some swim workouts. He will close with his triple lindy swan dive followed by a cannonball!

treatment center

I've never been to a treatment center.

I have seen ads for many. I came across one today that specializes in the underlying causes of addictions. This facility provides dual diagnosis to not only help patients break their addictions, but to find and deal with the underlying causes that drove them to addiction in the first place. This sounds like the way to help patients to reach a full recovery and to be able to deal with life as it continues to happen outside the treatment facility.

fish camp

I've never been to fish camp.

This is what they call "freshman orientation" and all the freshman come to the school to get their books, schedules, ids and learn more about the school. I guess it's a good idea. I know most incoming freshman are nervous and at least seeing the school and making your way around before school actually starts and even meeting new friends helps with some of those jitters.

sell merchant accounts

I've never been to sell merchant accounts.

I am not sure I even know what this means! But the folks at R3 Recurring Revenue Resellers seem to know. This is their specialty. According to their website, they pay "30% of ongoing recurring revenue from all sources of income from credit and debit card processing". They offer outstanding support and two tier billing. They also provide online residual tracking.

transcripts

I had never been to pick up my kids' transcripts before.

It is actually not a problem. Just get in contact with your child's school registrar to find out the times they work. Then request the child's transcript. If it is an official transcript they will stamp it and seal it in an envelope. This is to only be opened by the accepting college/school. The official transcript will likely cost you a fee-ours was $2. An unofficial transcript is also available (though probably not accepted by colleges) and is usually printed out for free.

pool supplies

I've never been to buy pool supplies.

For a year or two in our early marriage, my husband cleaned the pool at the apartments where we lived for a discount on our rent. This has meant that he has never wanted to buy a home with a pool. Of course, our kids feel differently. I think they would love to have a pool. Since I've never had to worry with cleaning, or buying new pool filters, or chemical balances, I don't see the problem. Who knows, maybe one day...

Staples

I've never been to Staples.

This is a new office supply store in our area. I heard that through Wednesday, they have packages of filler paper on sale for .01 cent! This offer is good with any $5 purchase and there is a limit of five packs of paper. This is the perfect back to school sale! Who says you can't buy anything with a penny any more?!

You can set up a GSA account where you will get quantity discounts, online shopping with color coded categories, and free shipping. There is even a clearance department!

college book renter

I've never been to rent college textbooks before.

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to just rent a book for a semester and sure enough, there are several sites available that do just that! I found a site that has my son's books for rent and/or sale cheaper than I expected. There are rentals available from 30-130 days at reasonable rates. I also found that to buy the book was half what it would have cost us locally. Since he will likely need the book for two semesters, I chose to purchase the book, which was only $9 more than renting it for the semester. His other book we rented for $10 for the semester.

When renting, you are allowed minimal highlighting while using the book to study. And the shipping is free as is the return shipping. They are also looking for students to be campus representatives. These kids can then earn certificates for future book rentals/purchases as well as bonuses.

And don't forget of course to check out the summer sale for some of the best prices on designer baby clothes.

Amazing Race: Youth Group Style

I've never been to an Amazing Race.

Last night I helped drive a group of our youth from church on their version of Amazing Race. Each team had to complete a task and then was handed a clue. From there each group had to figure out where the clue led them to. Once we (finally!) got to the destination, another fun task was completed. They were then given another clue to another destination. It was great fun for all involved (in spite of someone calling the cops on the "teens loitering around Chik Fil a!") A fun way for teens to hang out, compete and have a general good time!

weekly deals

I've never been to Buy.com's Weekly Deals.

But with things changing and school expenses piling up, I am constantly looking for the Best Buy I can get on any given product. When I found Buy's new page, I was glad to see the variety of items offered on special. There are of course the electronics I expected, but also some great looking running shoes, and even text books! I was happy to see that they also offer free shipping on many items. They even offer daily special deals!

cockpit of an airplane

I've never been to the cockpit of an airplane.

When my kids were younger, they got invited to the cockpit. It was perfect because we had just studied airplanes in our homeschool! And I just heard that my nephews got to go into the cockpit of the plane they took to Alaska! I did not know they were still letting kids into cockpits, but I am so glad! I know the boys got a real kick out of it!

megasafe box cutter

I've never been to buy a megasafe box cutter.

I never even knew there were any that were megasafe! I know when I worked in retail, we carried box cutters in our pockets to break down boxes after unloading inventory. And I am sure that those box cutters were none too safe! These days accident prevention is important and it's good to know that there are smarter, safer cutters and knives available.

enroll a child in college

I've never been to enroll a child in college.

This week I went with my son to get him enrolled for dual credit classes at a local community college. As we signed in to see the counselor, I was gently reminded to let him sign himself in! We had no problem getting him in; as he had already taken both the SAT and the ACT tests and his scores were high enough that he did not even have to take the college entrance exams! (This saves both time and money!) He is now signed up to take an English course and a PE course. I am excited for him and hope this serves as a great motivator for him.

buy patio chairs online

I've never been to buy patio chairs online.

I actually haven't bought patio chairs in years. I think it is about time. After all our spring and summer cleaning, we are down to one patio chair! Since it's so hot and mosquito-y around here, we don't sit out as much as we'd like. But when the weather turns a bit cooler, I would love one of those Hallo Canopy chairs! Just right for a couple of us to sit and snuggle and look at the stars….

Alaska

I've never been to Alaska.

My sister and our two nephews left today for a trip to the great white north! I must admit that I am jealous! They hope to see some bears and moose and the salmon, which are apparently active at this time of year. They will not be able to see the Northern Lights though. They do hope to get over to see the whales. Driving around and seeing everything they can in the time they have to stay is the main plan of their trip. They will have plenty of daylight to do so, as there is about 20 hours of daylight a day right now. I just can't wait to see all the photos they bring back to show us!

sleeping pills

I've never been to buy sleeping pills.

Though there are times in my life I feel like I need them! We are all busy, and tired, and stressed and often unable to sleep well. Some folks do finally decide that the best way to get a full and restful night's sleep is to use sleeping pills. While many may have a bad reputation, it is helpful to find out what you can, maybe by reading some information on www.sleepingpillreviews.net. Hopefully, this will eventually lead to a good night's sleep!

Alley Theater

I've never been to the Alley Theater.

Tonight will be my first trip to the popular Houston theater. They keep a full season and according to their website, they are "one of the few American Theatre companies that supports a company of actors, designers, artisans and craftspeople throughout the year." They also have their own scene shop and rehearsal center. The Alley houses two stages with regular performances on each. They also support youth programs. And in the summer, they offer a "chilling production" with "summer chill prices" starting at just $21.

force factor reviews

I've never been to force factor reviews.

I do not often read about mens' health issues or reviews for mens' vitamins and products. But I do care about the health of the men in my life. And if they want to try something to help them be stronger, more fit or other ways to improve their life, I am interested and want to make sure they use the best products as well as making sure those products are safe and effective.

movie theater three times in one month

I've never been to the movie theater three times in one month.

At least not that I can remember. But that is what happened in the month of July! (There have been years when we did not go to the theater three times!) We saw Toy Story 3, then Inception and to finish out the month, Despicable Me. It was nice to spend time together as a family watching good movies. I know part of the reason we could visit the theater three times in such a short span is that our kids are getting older and can handle it better. Also, I'd like to think that there are some decent movies being made…

receipt printer

I've never been to purchase a receipt printer.

These compact little devices look like they would be perfect for small business. It is nice to be able to give customers a receipt. There are many receipt printers available for order online making it easy to shop and purchase one. Star, Bixolon, Citizen and epson receipt printers are all available. There is even price matching and refurbished units available.
