Mt Kinabalu

I've never been to Mt. Kinabalu

This mountain located in Kinabalu National Park in the province of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo is the tallest mountain in southeast Asia. My sister, nephews and some friends are attempting the climb this summer.

The trek is a two day hike. They will hike up and spend the night in a dorm before heading to the summit on day two. It sounds like an amazing trip and I cannot wait to hear all about it! I read all about the trek here. I hope one day I will be able to join them in a climb up Mt. Kinabalu.

free ice cream cupcakes

I've never been to get free ice cream cupcakes.

A local ice cream shop was offering them today from 4-7 but we just did not make it. But tomorrow I heard that Burger King is offering free fries. While it's not ice cream cupcakes, maybe we will make it to get those next year!

new and improved backyard

I've never been to my neighbor's new and improved backyard.

While they are just beginning their improvement project, I know they can hardly wait to get finished to entertain and enjoy their new backyard. They are building up and putting in pavers. They have also acquired an outdoor fireplace. I mean fireplace, not some small pit! I don't know what all they will install to go along with their new and improved backyard. I won't be surprised to see them get new patio furniture, maybe even a new hanging chair outdoor reading area!

Christmas tree farm

I've never been to a Christmas tree farm.

My mother in law just brought us a beautiful wreath that she got from a local Christmas tree farm. I had forgotten there was one not too far from us. They have a variety of Pines and Cypresses to choose from. The Leyland Cypress is said to be perfect for allergy sufferers! I did not realize they also made these gorgeous wreaths and they also have a mistletoe farm!

Camping for Christmas

I've never been camping for Christmas.

But I think it sounds like a great idea! I can just imagine the camp sites all lit up with Christmas lights and decorations. Camp fires and hay rides and Christmas carols could all add to the enjoyment of the season. One of our best camping trips involved renting a camper for a week. While we did have to call for rv repair it all worked out under the rental agreement. I think renting a camper for Christmas could prove to be a simple and relaxing vacation!

Twenty Mile Run

I had never been on a Twenty mile run before.

This weekend in my training for a personal goal I have set for myself I did a twenty mile run! Ok, well, it was a run-walk but the walks were timed and put in intentionally. My personal goal is to run a marathon length, 26.2 miles. I will still have another hour on top of what I did for my twenty mile run but with all my training, I hope I will finish the marathon distance in just over 5 hours.

ice skating at Discovery Green

I've never been to ice skate at Discovery Green.

During the month of December, Discovery Green in downtown Houston has an outdoor ice skating rink. I read that the rink is surrounded with colorful art glass. There are concessions including hot chocolate, cookies and Belgian waffles. On Tuesday evenings there is live music with a skating jazz musician.

indoor shooting range

I've never been to an indoor shooting range.

There is one close by and my husband has expressed interest in going to a shooting range, so when today's Groupon for an outing to this very indoor range came up, I knew what he was getting for Christmas! The coupon covers the range fees, use of firearms and $10 toward ammunition. I think my husband will have a good time on his first trip to the indoor shooting range.

Pennsylvania Amusement Parks

I've never been to any Pennsylvania amusement parks.

These parks include Knoebels, Waldameer, Dorney Park and of course Sesame Place and Hershey Park. I bet there are a lot of fun amusements at each park. And I bet the pennsylvania energy providers are happy to supply the energy for any of these parks! I wonder if one company is the provider for all of the parks....

travel to triathlon

I've never been to travel to a triathlon until this year.

My husband has been in training for a year for his first Ironman event. This has involved some traveling for us to triathlon events. I told my husband we could just get a travel trailer or pop up trailer so we could travel to events. Yes we would have to get some kind of curt trailer hitches but it would save us on hotel rooms.

earthquake

I've never been in an earthquake before.

My son is attending school in Oklahoma and experienced his first earthquake! When I called to check on him he said it was "no big deal, really" (he is located just outside of Oklahoma City) and that he didn't even realize that it was an earthquake. He was in the car and it started shaking. He thought it was just the wind. I hope any other earthquake experiences will be just as small deals!

Courageous

I've never been to see Courageous.

I heard it was a good movie, has a good message. My daughter and husband both saw it. Daughter said it's good but too long. My husband said it is good, had a good message, and called our son right after, telling him to be sure and see it. Being in college he said he didn't have the money. So I bought him movie passes that I hope he will use to see the show.

Golden Corral

I've not been to a Golden Corral restaurant in years.

This past weekend, my dad took eight college kids to eat in a nice big Golden Corral. They were thrilled and their eyes were definitely bigger than their stomachs! It was fun watching them eat so much and be so happy to be out of the college caf! But our getting to the restaurant was an adventure in itself.

We drove to the address we were first given, about three minutes from the college. No Golden Corral. Then we drove another twenty or so miles to find ourselves at an Asian buffet housed in an old Golden Corral building. We did eventually find our way to the really nice GC and enjoyed ourselves. But I thought that if anyone was looking to take out restaurant loans to build a new restaurant in that college town, a Golden Corral might be just what they could use. I know some college kids who would love it!

Athlinks

I had never been to Athlinks before.

Today as I was getting ready to do the first leg of a triathlon relay I met a lady who said she had looked up my name on Athlinks. This is a site that keeps tracks of all the athletes have done. (There are some events I have done that are not listed, I guess they are not affiliated or have not been turned in by race directors or something.) She knew the first triathlon I had done back in 2004; she had done the same one! So after the race today I came home and looked up the info. Pretty cool to have all my events listed in one spot and to look back at the race times. This allows me to compare times and see the improvements I've made!

Orbeez

I've never been to buy Orbeez.

I had never even heard of them. And when I did hear about them I still did not really not know what they are!

Orbeez are small tiny orbs that come in a variety of colors. Place them in water to watch them grow into squishy, bouncy orbs. Then you can display them in a variety of ways. If you've got kids who are into Orbeez, you can order the Orbeez Refill online so you can keep your kids stocked up on these tiny colorful orbs.

marathon

I've never been to run a marathon.

And since most of the organized runs around here are held on Sundays I am not sure when I will get the chance to do one. So my friend and I are thinking of setting up our own marathon (or half) to do on New Year's Eve. I have been trying to raise my mileage. I am hoping that I will get enough done to run a full length marathon on Dec. 31.

infant casting call

I had never been to an infant casting call before.

This past week the little one year old girl I keep had the opportunity to "audition" for a tv commercial. It was certainly nothing fancy and they did a good job about keeping it low key. They basically talked the babies and took photos and video of them. On the call back they did ask if she knew any songs. I think they were trying to see her become more animated and to see if she would interact. At this point, I am guessing she did not get the part. But no matter, we know how cute and clever she is anyway! And for the future I am going to be looking out for that commercial to see who got cast and if we were there with whoever got the part.

guitar lessons

I've never been to guitar lessons.

But my son, my niece and my nephew all have taken guitar lessons. While none of them took the lessons very long, it seems like one helpful tool is a guitar chords chart. This is something they could just tack to the wall or put in a notebook and anytime they were just sitting around they could grab their guitar and remember the things they were learning just by looking at the chart. No matter how far they go in their guitar playing, it seems like the chord charts were an important part of their learning. I hope they will always find enjoyment in their instrument.

drive across Canada

I've never been on a drive across Canada.

I can only imagine how gorgeous that would be to see the mountains and snow. I would love to see many places if I took a drive across Canada. Toronto would be a great stop. And then I could move on to Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec. New Brunswick and Nova Scotia would be amazing stops at the end of the way.  If I went the other direction then I could see Calgary, Banff and Vancouver. There is a lot to see if I ever do make it on a drive across Canada. Now if on this drive I encountered any car problems (as has happened on a past trip to Yellowstone) I would know just where to look for help in finding the parts I would need-http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/.

A skin for an electronic device. My son was showing us his new laptap, a real beauty! I asked him if he wants a skin for it. I will probably add a skin case to his Christmas list now.

I've never been to a tattoo expo.

I saw a billboard while driving advertising the upcoming tattoo expo in Houston, TX Sept 16-18. I could not even imagine what a tattoo expo entails. I have heard that "landscaping" or bringing the outdoors into the wedding as part of the decor is in with celebs. I know that personalized gifts that represent the couple is an in thing. I even heard that groom's cakes are in-something I have seen done at nearly every wedding I've ever attended! And now, if one of the newest trends for celebs could be to stay committed to make the marriage work, to make it last....

I am hoping to do that this weekend though! My daughter has been waiting for her brother to go to college so she can remodel the bathroom, making it her own! So, while we can't do it all, I do hope to get a new toilet this weekend.

I've never been to see a fire started by heat.

When we dropped our son off at college we were told that a fire had broken out a week before on the north side of town from the extreme heat. It seems that all of us in our region are experiencing record heat and drought conditions. I know that our local area has set a record of over 40 consecutive days in the triple digit temperatures. While I have not seen any fires locally, I know folks are joking about the heat, saying things like there is no need for exercise or weight loss pills since now you can lose weight just by walking to the car!

All three of us have birthdays within a week of each other, so we decided that for our 18th birthday we would all go skydiving together. Otherwise known as an Olympic distance. I had entered one but weather conditions made canceling the swim portion imperative. So I ended up doing a biathlon that day. But in just over a month I will (hopefully) finish my first Olympic distance tri. It is local and there will be several of our team members competing. I've never been to an editing department.

But for some years now I have felt like I want to become some kind of editor. Especially for small websites. I did not go to school for it and have only had experience in criticizing websites, business and publications for their typos, misspellings and grammar errors. It really drives me crazy to see anything "professional" or for business letting these things go (I am not speaking of plays-on-words or intentional misspellings for the sake of the business/service.) I think it is very unprofessional and makes you/your business look inane. I don't know if I could really do it, or if it takes any kind of equipment or specialized scanning software or just years of practice, but maybe one day I'll get paid to spot those errors!

I had never been to Wimberley, TX before.

But I just got back from a long weekend there. The town (village) is small and far enough away to bring that feeling of peace and quiet. There is not a whole lot to do here outside of shopping. The town center is filled with a collection of eclectic shops, something for everyone. My husband's favorite was the candy store, mine, the stained glass window shop. There is a Pioneer Town, a cowboy museum, a zip line and the swimming hole and river. There is also a very interesting glass blowing demonstration. Many places are closed on Mondays since their busy times are weekends. But if you want peace and quiet away from it all, Wimberley is a great little place to find it.

teaching swim lessons

I've never been to teach swim lessons.

I recently got my lifeguard certification and my grandmother has asked me to teach my two little cousins how to swim with proper technique this summer. Both of my little cousins love going to the pool. We pack a big bag full of pool toys, water guns, towels, and snacks so we can enjoy a nice long day at the pool. My cousins are very funny with their swim attire. The older of the two must have his snorkel while the younger loves to swim with his flippers. It is very entertaining watching him walk to the edge of the pool and jump in with his flippers on. And both of my cousins refuse to swim without their swim goggles. Now all they have to do is learn to swim and they'll be set!

evening at the hair salon

I've never been to the hair salon in the evening.

I have never gotten my hair cut in the evening before. So tonight when I went into the salon, I was surprised when I was offered a glass of wine! I have always been offered something to drink during the day when I've gone, some water or a soda. And since I do not drink alcohol I was rather taken aback by the question! Then I looked around and noticed how many of the ladies had their glasses of wine! I just knew my neighbors would be happy to have that glass of wine for me.

When I was checking out I was asked if I wanted to make my next appointment for about 6 or 7 weeks away. I said no. And then mentioned that would be just about the time my son leaves for college. The stylist told me she would have that glass of wine waiting for me when I next come in!

I had wanted to see it originally, but I don't like harsh language so decided to wait. My husband brought the movie home tonight. I asked him if he got the original version or the newer PG-13. He didn't even realize there was a "cleaned-up" release. He said it is probably just as good as the original.

CrossFit

I've never been to CrossFit.

I heard someone recently talking about the CrossFit method of training. It is a "minimalist" approach using less "gear" than most commercial gyms. They do mostly gymnastics, plyometrics type moves while incorporating some equipment like medicine/kettle balls and even rope climbing. They also provide a CrossFit Journal to read for support. I don't know if they provide any type of hgh reviews but using their methods seems to have improved muscle in those who use the CrossFit program.

soul surfer

I've never been to see Soul Surfer.

I read the story years ago when it was first published in Reader's Digest. I felt then that it was a positive and encouraging story. Now it has been made into a movie and I am not sure I want to see it. I don't doubt that it probably has a positive and encouraging theme to it. But I am just not sure I want to see the shark attack. I would however probably let my kids see it. We all need as much encouragement and inspiration that we can get.

in a Renaissance Fair

I've never been part of a Renaissance Fair.

So when I read this little summary about a boy who is involved, I was intrigued:

Drakmar on HBO
Author: Abdul Sanford

I love sitting down in my favorite couch and watching HBO on my TV from www.ExpertSatellite.com. I especially love the documentaries that come out on this particular channel. It's fun to watch the different things that some people document and I love recording some of the films onto DVD so that I can watch them again at a later time. One of my favorite HBO documentaries has to be one that is called Drakmar. This particular film aired a few years ago and it's one that has touched my heart so much that I am desperately trying to find it on DVD so that I can actually purchase it.

The film is based on a real-life boy who lives in California. He is somewhat of a loner and spends a lot of time by himself. He actually participates in something that involves medieval life that takes place. He goes on tournaments and goes to functions where Renaissance fairs are being held. After watching the film, I actually wanted to go out to California in order to see how this boy really lives. I'm very interested in Renaissance fairs now that I know about them. I would absolutely love to find one in my area so that I can go to it on a regular basis when it is being held in the warmer months of the year.

Biloxi

I had never been to Biloxi, MS before.

On a recent trip to visit a college, we drove through Biloxi. Being seafood lovers, we decided on the way home to drive along the ocean side and find a place to eat some seafood. I was disappointed to find the old 90 was mostly stop lights and not even a view of the ocean until you get into Biloxi. Once there we did get a nice ocean view and there seemed to be some nice spots to pull off and play on the beach. There are many casinos in Biloxi as well as a Hard Rock Cafe. We also had some good seafood at Desportes & Sons seafood market, where you can get a meal or buy seafood to take home to prepare. If we are ever back through Biloxi I'll have some more seafood and hopefully make a trip to the beach area.

I've never been to a senior ski trip.

But tonight some of the parent's of next years graduating class started talking about ideas for their seniors to go on a ski trip next year. I told them great, I know it would be fun, but they all have to wear helmets! (Maybe I should have told them to check out www.wholesaleinsurance.net/!)

I've never been to Disney's Grad Night Party.

Athletic International Missions

I've never been on an Athletic International Missions trip.

But I know a family who is planning for their second trip with them. They will be conducting volleyball camps in the Dominican Republic. They teach the students the skills needed to play the game of volleyball, including the importance of drills and fundamentals training. More importantly, they teach the children about Jesus through VBS and through the game of volleyball. They teach them to commit their lives to Christ, to pray before games and to be good bearers of His name on and off the court.

Faulkner University

I had never been to Faulkner University.

I had not even heard of it until last year. This Christian college associated with the Churches of Christ is located in Montgomery, AL and was formerly Alabama Christian College. We were blessed to make the long drive over to visit the campus. It was worth it. Even if my son does not go there, I do recommend it to people.

They are a smaller Christian school located in a capital city providing many opportunities. Classes are not held on Fridays allowing students an extra day to work. After taking twelve semester hours at Faulkner, you earn a free course at Auburn University's Montgomery campus.

The people are exceedingly nice. We were provided with many blessings while we were there: a place to stay, free shirts for the prospective students, free meals, a free ticket to an on campus play. We enjoyed our visit and find it to be one of the favorite schools we've visited. I hope that others looking for a Christian education will take the time to check out Faulkner.

Malibu

I've never been to the beach in Malibu.

But if I was sick, I could go. It seems to me that there could not be many nicer locations to recover in. The scenic views of Malibu would provide a gorgeous setting in which to recover and recuperate.  SO, if being sick and stressed out just isn't for you, then perhaps you are in need of some california rehabs to take your mind off of it all.  A place where you can truly relax and just enjoy being there.

infant swim resource

I've never been to an Infant Swim Resource class.

This is more than just a swim lesson, this is life saving skills for young children. Kids as young as six months will learn in a one-on-one setting how to breath underwater, roll onto their back and float until assisted. They will practice this in a swim diaper as well as fully clothed. The goal of ISR is to see that NOT ONE MORE CHILD DROWNS.

Gifts for your godmother

I've never been to the north pole.

But I hear that they have some serious gift making going on up there.  However, what has always amazed me the most about Santa's operation is not how he gets all the gifts wrapped and delivered, but rather how he decides what to get each specific child.  It is always a difficult choice for me to try and pinpoint what gift to get the recipient, whether it be my friend, sister, or godmother.  Fortunately for all of us undecided gift givers out there, there is help.  At least for our godmothers.  So if you really need a gift for godmothercheck out this link and you'll be on your way to saving the occasion, better than Santa ever could.

Kid's Triathlon

I've never been to a kid's triathlon.

I read about a local kid's triathlon training that has recently begun in our area. It looks like kids from a range of ages are participating, starting at age 7 (age 6 if they turn 7 by Dec. 31.) The kids learn how to become better and stronger swimmers, cyclists and runners. They train in a pool, on spin bikes (with modified trainers for the smaller ones to set their 20" bikes up on!), and an adjacent track. It looks like so much fun! Hopefully I will be able to see one of these events soon!

Cigarnival

I've never been to a Cigarnival.

Coming August 26-27 in Easton, PA, cigar lovers can enjoy the flavors and aromas of their favorite cigars in a carnival atmosphere. There will be cigars from many vendors, including Camacho, Arturo Fuente, APC, Kristoff, Reinado (not sure about macanudo.) There will also be beverages, a full buffet, carnival games, casino and live entertainment. General admission and VIP tickets are on sale now. The expo is being held in a new state of the art location. The one thing I like about it is the shuttle bus being provided for those who have had too many adult beverages.

Action Figure Museum

I've never been to the Action Figure Museum.

In driving to Oklahoma City, we passed a sign for the Action Figure Museum in Paul's Valley, OK. We did not have the chance this trip to stop. In looking at the website, this is a collection of action figures and memorabilia in line with those toys. The first toy to be called an action figure was G.I. Joe, which was the first figure inducted to the museum.

The museum also houses the Oklahoma Cartoonists Collection, honoring Oklahoma cartoonists. They have a play room to actually play with the action figures. They also offer interesting classes on action figure design and other artistic concepts along this line. You can even have a birthday party here. I think we will be stopping on our next trip through.

Wilderness Trek

I've never been to Wilderness Trek.

It is a trip that my husband has been on many times. The trek takes a group of teenagers and leads them on a grueling hike up a mountain. They have 2-3 days to complete the trek. They learn about teamwork and trust. They grow closer together, stronger inside themselves and most importantly, spiritually. My son was able to go to trek two years ago, even with a broken collar bone. He did not need a special shoulder stabilizer but just kept his arm in a sling. He carried a lighter pack than others, which was another lesson in itself, both for him and his trek-makes. Trek is a good learning experience and character builder for teens.

Chick Fil A

I had never been to Chick Fil A.

Until about two weeks ago. My son and I stopped in and I thought I was getting a "healthier" fast food meal than I would have elsewhere. And then I really liked the fries! So last week, I stopped by on Free Fryday. Again, the fries are yummy! So when we were going to be running up until the last minute before church last night, I considered stopping by Chick Fil A for our dinner. I had time that afternoon to look at the Chick Fil A website and their nutrition information.

I have to admit that I was really disappointed. Yes, it is grilled chicken that is served on the sandwich, but it's chicken that has artificial color and artificial flavor added!! What??? It's chicken! Why does it need artificial flavor and color added??? I made our own sandwiches to take and we didn't even stop in for the yummy and FATTENING fries. At least I know it saved us money, calories and health benefits.

smoking allowed flights

I've never been on a flight where smoking was allowed.

Since I've been flying, smoking has always been banned on board. I really like this rule as cigarette smoke really bothers me. I have recently heard that there has been some consideration to allowing the new electronic cigarettes to be used in flight. I really hope this does not pass. I know people say that the smoke doesn't go "out" and is only ingested by the user. However, in my limited experience, I can say that I have personally smelled the  electronic cigarette when passing a user, and even seen "smoke" coming from it. I am not really sure how they work, but I do hope they don't allow them to be used in flight.

Khan Academy

I've never been to Khan Academy.

I just learned about this free online tool where students (seemingly of any age) can learn nearly anything they need to in the areas of math and science. The site was put together by a young man tutoring his cousins. He realized this is a great way for everyone to learn-short tutorial videos, learn at your own pace, learn when you have the time and it's free. Students can start with basic information and move up to higher level courses. Achievement is rewarded with badges and buttons and there is a place for teachers (coaches/mentors) to track all students' progress. I sure wish I'd known about this when my kids were younger....maybe then they would never have gone to public school....

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

I've never been to a hurricane shelter.

But I do remember once, a few years back, when we evacuated for an incoming hurricane. We were so nervous that it seemed as though we took everything we had and packed it into our little car. Everything but the kitchen sink. This famous phrase has been around for quite some time, possibly originating around the world war two era. It seems to indicate that this is the biggest and most basic foundation of a good kitchen - a good sink. And if you are in need of one, I'd check out Franke sinks for all my sink needs. Because you can't start a kitchen without a sink. It would be a mess if anyone ever tried. But it sure would be entertaining.

I was looking around tonight for a way to order just one tassel. I did find some places that sell them pretty affordably. However, I was thrilled when I learned that you can make your own tassels. I bookmarked a couple of sites and may have to use my epson printers to print out the directions; I really hope that I will be able to make a nice tassel for my son's senior photos!

I am not sure if I would even like to go to a day spa. I won't deny that I might could benefit from spending a day or so at one. I've never been to get a tattoo.

It seems as if getting a tattoo is a real cultural fad in today's society. I am really not sure why. I don't understand the attraction of it and I doubt that most American's get tattoos for religious reasons or for cultural symbols. It seems that today's younger generation are getting tattoos to memorialize a loved one, for "artistic" reasons, or just for fun. It makes me wonder just how many are going to be candidates for tattoo removal in twenty to fifty years.

There is a restaurant in Arizona that prides itself on serving exotic tacos. They have served things like python, rattlesnake, frog legs, alligator, kangaroo, elk, and turtle. care package cookie exchange

I've never been to a care package cookie exchange.

This is for parents whose kids are in college. It is a way for "empty nest" parents to get together and also a way to encourage the kids. Parents get together one evening, each family bringing about three dozen cookies. Include families from your kid's circle of friends. Have some snacks on hand for the adults to nibble before or while putting together the care packages. Bring ziplock baggies and/or plastic containers to hold the cookies. Have everyone sign cards for the kids (they will love getting notes from their own parents and siblings but also from their friends' parents and siblings too!) Consider taking photos to enclose as well. Then package everything up and send the boxes to those away at college. Soon, you'll be hearing those "thank-yous" back from the happy recipients!

I've never been to Montana to ski before.

But when I found out that I was going to get a chance to, I was excited and couldn't wait to get packed and get on the plane. The first thing I packed was long underwear and plenty of sweaters. I also had to pack my best acne treatment and plenty of shower supplies, since I knew I would be sweating and working hard on the slopes every day. Finally, I packed tons of socks and undershirts, because the only way to really defeat the cold way up north is to layer, layer, and layer some more.  Finally, I was ready for the beautiful mountains.

I didn't know what I was getting myself in to! They want to see me every day this week and three times next week. Then we'll see how to progress after that.
