End of the World Marathon

I've never been to the End of the World Marathon.

This Dec. 21 when the world is scheduled to end, according to some theorists, some other folks have decided to celebrate by hosting an End of the World Marathon and half-marathon. Yes, it's on a Friday and there is a nine hour time limit (no rush to the end of the world.) So even though I have not been training for the distance, I decided to enter the half-marathon. They are also offering an After the End of the World Marathon (and half) the next day, Dec. 22. And for those folks doing both days, they will earn a special Mayan medallian.

Black Friday

I've never been to work on Black Friday.

Today our store stayed busy all day long-it reminded me of Grand Opening weekend. Although we had steady business I did not see anyone being crazy or rude. I did not work the wee hours of the day but those who did said everyone was great-no cranky customers.

buy a guitar

I've never been to buy a guitar.

My husband plays a bit. And my son learned some too. Even though he took lessons we never bought a guitar. He just used a friend's and my husband's guitar. So now that my daughter is learning to play a bit, she will probably be asking for one of her own too. I wonder how the Black Friday deals look for a nice  Fender guitar. I will have to check out some specials!

TED talks

I had never been to TED talks before.

My husband has recently introduced me to these Technology, Entertainment and Design mini-seminars/talks. They are enlightening and interesting. They surely keep to their motto of "ideas worth spreading". Even if you are not into listening to lectures, these short talks will surely have something of interest to nearly everyone. And if they make me a little more informed or smarter....

IM Creator

I've never been to IM Creator.

This new portfolio website builder looks to offer some clean, edgy templates to help make website building easy as well as professional looking. When I first started building a website I had no idea what I was doing. I had to have some kind soul helping out remotely. This IM Creator tries to simplify the process using drag and drop editing with no programming.

egg nog jog

I've never been to the egg nog jog.

This year the weekend before Christmas we have the chance to join in a local "egg nog jog". It is a night time family fun run/walk. It is basically a fun way to get out and see Christmas lights and enjoy the season. Best of all it's FREE! I think this could be a new tradition starting!

college with a laptop

I've never been to college with a laptop.

In my day of course, these did not exist. But as our son got ready to head to college we saw the importance of having a laptop computer with him. So we got him one for his high school graduation. The school he was going to was very small but embraced and utilized technology to the best of its ability. And when he transferred schools, we saw just how important constant and easy/convenient access to a computer is for today's students. So we plan on doing the same for our daughter's graduation-buying her a laptop. Whether she chooses an IBM, Apple, Dell or asus laptop we want to give her the very best chance she has to succeed in today's post secondary environment. My son has told me he doesn't know how he could do it without his laptop. I hope that our kids have every opportunity to succeed.

Columbia Muddy Buddy

I've never been to Columbia Muddy Buddy.

There are several of these events throughout the country. I found one in Austin that I am interested in doing, if I can get some of my other Columbia co-workers to form a team with me. This muddy buddy would be a lot of fun as there is a running event as well as a run/bike event. I hope we can get a few of us to go to this event next spring!

Bella Notte

I've never been to Bella Notte.

I was recently looking for bedding for my son's room since I had painted it a really different color and wanted bedding to match. I had a certain idea of what I wanted. But I did not know that with Bella Notte you can get just what you are looking for. This bedding line is completely custom using colors and techniques of your choosing. And the bedding is not made until you order. This allows you to get just the unique combination you want. And right now there is a bella notte bedding sale. Perfect for holiday gift giving or sprucing up.

Columbia Sportswear

I had never been to Columbia Sportswear before. But we recently had an outlet store open in our area. While they have been "trying stuff since 1938" I have only recently become more familiar with them. Yes, I've seen their stuff around, even had some of their apparel. But I always just thought it was high end sports gear. And while that is fairly true, there is a reason for it. I have been learning about the science and technology that Columbia puts into their products. It's not just cool looking sports wear; it's designed with a purpose in mind-whether to keep you cool, warm or dry. Or all of them. I've learned about the cooling and wicking effects of the clothes, the way they are designed to keep you warm. And they even have some gear with insect repellent, sunscreen and "blood and guts stain resistor" built in. I am especially waiting to try the wind blocking effects of a jacket. And their rewards program looks good too. You can join, save on your first purchase and get free shipping online. And since ordering online never guarantees a perfect fit, they have an easy return policy. You can even return your online order to a local store. That I'd like to see.

The Helmet Shop

I've never been to The Helmet Shop. My husband is always searching for the perfect motorcycle gear. And since we don't have many dealers in the area, he often turns to shopping online. I recently learned about online motorcycle helmets, apparel and gear shopping. One of the sites I read today seems to have a safety in mind when helping their customers. I learned from their site that helmets are to used for five years. And that motorcycle apparel is key when it comes to safety for riders, especially in the case of "laying down" the bike.
