Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit

I've never been to see the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit.

The next traveling exhibit to come through the Houston Museum of Natural Science will be Leonardo Da Vinci. I can't wait to see this exhibit. Every time I read or hear about him, I am fascinated by his understanding, his work, his drive to learn everything about everything. The exhibit coming in March will display 60 models of Da Vinci's most fascinating inventions and machines, based on his ancient codices.

Los Posadas

I had never been to a Los Posadas celebration before.

Before Christmas, we were blessed to be able to attend a Los Posadas celebration put on by second graders in a local private school. Los Posadas is the Mexican celebration of the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem and their search for an inn. These second graders did an excellent job reciting and singing in both Spanish and English. We followed the candle lit re-enactment on a path lit by farolitas listening to the recitations and singing. When we reached the destination, the group sang "Silent Night" in both Spanish and English. It was a special night for these kids and their parents.

buying cuff links

I've never been to buy cuff links.

One of the college aged boys was home for the holidays this past week. I noticed in church the cuff links he was wearing. I don't know why, but I noticed. They really did look sharp. It seems that cufflinks are a nice way to sharpen your image, to finish off that polished look. Cuff links would probably make a really nice birthday, Father's Day or groomsman's gift.

Fry's

I've never been to Fry's Electronics.

Yep. That's right. I've never been. But I am on my way now to see if they have a camera case for my new digital camera. I am afraid they are just going to be one big warehouse full of junk I don't want. My husband has been there several times, but says he hates it, it's too big. I am hopeful that they will have what I want.

bed bugs

I've never been to a hotel with bed bugs.

And I hope I never do! It seems that bed bugs have been making a re-appearance in the Western world. I am not sure why-perhaps there are less users of things like DDT or maybe because people travel internationally quite often these days. But whatever the case, bed bugs can be a nasty problem, especially for hotel patrons/owners and apartment dwellers. These nasty bugs can cause irritating bites. There are ways you can learn to identify and rectify this problem.

Mass

I've never been to a Catholic Mass.

We are contemplating going to Midnight Mass tomorrow for Christmas Eve service. Friends of our family will be singing at the midnight mass. They told me yesterday all about it. It sounds like a lovely celebration. I would really love to see it and know I would enjoy the singing. I just am not sure if I will be able to stay awake!

Junior High Retreat

I've never been to a junior high retreat with my daughter.

This was her first year to get to go on the church sponsored junior high retreat. She was really excited, even though it meant she could not audition for the Christmas play. She had a great time with her friends. I think we need to re-evaluate the camping gear these girls bring. My daughter said there was almost no room because of the air mattresses two of them brought-one a full size!

Disney Cruise

I've never been on a Disney Cruise.

We have been talking, dreaming and saving for a Disney trip this upcoming year. We have been contemplating if we would rather take a cruise. So we thought maybe a Disney cruise. There are three and four night Bahama cruises available. And of course the wonderful Disney Magic is found everywhere on board-from shows, programs, dining and the hospitality. It would be great to see Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, as well.

Woofstock

I've never been to Woofstock.

The 2007 Woofstock took place last month at Clear Lake Park. The event featured pet psychic Myra Logan, pet photographs and the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club. There were also holiday shopping opportunities. One highlight of the event was the costume contest and photos. The donation this year allowed owners to get their dog microchipped by a local vet. This is a great way to store permanent information about your pet in case of emergency. The event was sponsored by the Bay Area SPCA and was tons of fun for all involved.

Best Start Babies

I've never been to Best Start Babies.

This mother's group is a free service of the Galveston County Family Service Center. This group is for mothers and their babies from newborn to age two. It is a place to share with other moms the joys, challenges, frustrations and triumphs of being "mommy". The group meets weekly and topics range from stress management, self-care, postpartum depression and many other timely topics.

And if you are a mommy who likes to tote her baby or toddler with her, check out these great new slings. Carrying your baby in a baby sling is a great way to keep your child with you, close to you for his/her comfort and leaves your hands free to do things you need and want to do. I bet if you wear this to the next mommy meeting, many other moms will want a sling too!

Handel's Messiah

I've never been to a performance of Handel's Messiah.

This past weekend the Mercury Baroque Ensemble, joined by the Houston Chamber Choir, performed this tribute to the holiday season. The performance this year was the uncut "1743 Covent Garden" version of the piece.

I've never been to a magnetic weight loss program.

I've actually never even heard of it before. Perhaps, many people have not, given that there are reportedly over 1 billion overweight adults worldwide. It takes an education and lifestyle change. The magnetic diet teaches you how to use "invigorating magnetism" to combine foods and control cravings.

I've never been on a cycling vacation.

I just blog hopped over to visit bicycles-adventure.com . He blogs about cycling adventures that he and others have taken. Pilates Reformer

I had never been to a Pilates Reformer class before tonight.

My husband and I decided to take an introductory class. Pilates Reformer is done on a machine. It adheres to the main ideals of Pilates-stretching, developing core strength, and creating long, lean muscles. The class was a really good workout done entirely on the Reformer/Allegro machine. It was nothing but a series of stretches done to work different body parts. It was so relaxing. Even though I could tell my body was getting a good workout, I felt so relaxed throughout the class. I am hoping to be able to continue some of these classes. Maybe one day I too will develop flexibility, core strength and long lean muscles.

Life Insurance Quotes

I've never been to get life insurance quotes before.

I usually leave that to my husband. He takes care of all that, all the time. My grandpa says that is not a really good idea. What if something happens to my husband? I won't know anything about the things I will need to know if I am not involved in these areas of important decision making. That does make sense. No one wants to think about being in these situations, but better planning makes it a little easier to deal with when it does happen. These days, finding the best life insurance is easier than ever. It is as simple as filling out an online form to compare terms and get quotes.

Heifer International

I've never been to Heifer International before.

Not too long ago, I got a magazine in the mail from them. I almost threw it away based on the title. But something stopped me. I glanced inside. I had never heard of this or anything like it before. It is an organization to reach out to help feed the world. They are making efforts to not only "provide a man with a fish, but to teach him to fish". What they do is provide animals to help poor families to be able to have added nourishment as well as to provide labor or fertilizer to enable them to continue to have food. The families will also pass along a baby of the animal later on, to help another family, in essence, helping their whole community. The animals provided include chickens, goats, sheep, ducks, rabbits, lamas and many others.

I have committed to use a portion of the money I have made blogging to send an animal or two to a needy family. I hope that other bloggers will also consider helping in this manner, or in some way use a part of your blogging for money proceeds to help somebody somewhere in the world.

A friend of ours performed in one of the many shows there this summer. We were unable to make it up to see her perform. There looks like there are so many shows and attractions at this family destination. Some of the shows look really great. I would love to see Bill Medley and Paul Revere, the acrobats of China are always an awesome sight, Legends in Concert should be a great show. I know I would enjoy the America show and my daughter would not want to miss the Broadway show.

The attractions also look to be a lot of fun for families. There are go-karts, Imax, the Titanic, the Presidential Museum and Ripley's to get started. There are water parks for the hot summer days. And the Christmas shows look like a lovely way to spend the holidays.

food for the homeless

I've never been to distribute food directly to the homeless.

This past weekend several of the teenagers from our church got just such a chance. They went into downtown and made 500 sack lunches. When they finished they loaded a bus and went to some known gathering places of the "outdoorsmen". These are the folks we normally call homeless. They distributed the lunches, some blankets, and spent time talking and praying with these people. One of the teens even gave his shoes to one of the men. Many of the teens chose to give up their own lunches as well so they could make one last stop to some more people who needed it more than they did. I think the impact was great on the kids who participated. As for the ones who did not, I think they have heard lots of good stuff about this activity. They are already asking when there will be another chance to do this again.

This is the place that does video and dvd subtitle. It seems to be a very interesting job. You have to not only know the native language spoken, you have to be fluent in the language, including local idioms, into which you are translating. At VCC, the translators take every effort to not give only a literal word for word translation, but to make it easily understood by making it fit the culture into which language the film is being translated. To ensure the proper translations, the film is reviewed by at least two translators. With VCC you can have your English or Spanish film subtitled into over forty languages.

The Business of Being Born

I've never been to see The Business of Being Born.

I have heard for years the question being asked "Should most births be viewed as a natural life process or should each delivery be treated as a potential medical emergency?" This is something that many families deal with and deliberate over. Why is having a baby so expensive? Is going to the hospital necessary? Is homebirth for us? The producers Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein address this question in their film.

On December 11, 2007, at 7pm, Star Cinema Grill in Webster, TX will host a sneak preview of this film. Tickets are $25 and include an entree and beverage. There will be a panel discussion after the viewing.

I've never been to Whistler Ski Resort in Whistler, BC.

This resort has many properties to rent. My husband just asked me if I want to go skiing next year. I will certainly have to mention the lovely look and wide variety of the Whistler accommodation . Many of the Whistler lodging offer ski up/ski out so you can start skiing the moment you are ready. The private hot tubs and wood burning fireplaces will be a welcome sight at the end of a beautiful day.

I will have to show all these condos to my husband and let him see which one he likes. I love the look of the Rainbow Suites 1. This cabin is located in the prime center of the village. The handmade doors and lofty ceilings are incredible. And I love the look of the cozy 14 foot high stone fireplace. This hand built luxury condo may be the highlight of a skiing vacation.

The area comes alive with carolers, entertainment, shows, choirs and machine-generated snow. Festival goers can revel in the coolness of the air (mildly cool) and celebrate another season of holidays.

Dickens on the Strand has become a favorite of locals and visitors from all over the world. The festival has been called one of the "100 Most Fun Places to Be In The World". It has also been noted as one of the "Top 100 Festivals in North America" and one of the "Top Ten Festivals in the State."
