Sky Bar Steak and Sushi

I've never been to Sky Bar Steak and Sushi.

This establishment is located on the Strand in Galveston. Sky Bar was damaged in Hurricane Ike, but is pleased to announce its re-opening for tonight, Dec. 31, 2008, New Year's Eve! Renovations have been completed and offer a warm, colorful, trendy feel. The music is upbeat and the food appeals to sushi lovers, steak lovers and vegetarians. You will find sushi rolls, prime steaks as well as other offerings. You can make reservations for tonight's party by emailing your name, number of people in your party, and your preferred reservation time to SkyBarGalveston@gmail.com. tv furniture

I've never been to buy tv furniture.

My husband made our tv cabinet over 15 years ago. My friend was showing me her tv stand just yesterday. It was made by some German builders who did work for her parents when my friend was four years old. They made a little table for her at the time. She wanted to keep that table and it is now her tv stand. Even though she got a new tv for Christmas, she kept her old table. I was impressed with her new tv (and old table) but she said she had to get it since the old tv was not going to work with the new digital requirements come February. I guess there may be many folks out there who will get new televisions and may even get new tv furniture to go with it.

The Day The Earth Stood Still

I've never been to see The Day The Earth Stood Still.

We went to see this movie for my birthday this week. I have not seen the original nor have I read the book. We took both our kids to the movie with us. The movie was pretty good. We all enjoyed it though my 12 year old daughter thought it was a little scary and pretty weird. There were some weird parts but it was pretty good.

I would say that it is a pretty clean movie. The violence was not over the top but the theme of the end of the world is pretty intense for some kids. I think the PG 13 rating is appropriate. My daughter found it more weird than scary, though during the movie was a little unsure. Now I just may have to go back and read the book and see the original movie!

Italy's Best Coffee

I've never been to Italy's Best Coffee.

This is one of the newest coffee franchises up and coming in the U.S. I have never been to any other coffee franchise besides the well known Starbucks, and even then I don't order coffee! I wonder if these newer coffee houses can make it as big as Starbuck's.

eat sushi

I've never been to eat sushi.

My husband has recently fallen in love with it and is now wanting me to try it! I did find out that not all sushi is raw. In fact, "sushi" just means the way the rice is packed/wrapped up. I was told there is some with cooked fish or with avocado. These both sound good, especially the salmon. I also was told that it doesn't smell fishy!

I've never been to the Christmas Capital of Texas.

I learned today that Grapevine, TX is the Christmas Capital of the state. The have activities every night through Dec. 22. These activities range from a train ride on the North Pole express-complete with caroling, story tellig and candy-to the decorated hotels and malls to indoor snow and ice sculptures. Metro Park

I've never been to Metro Park.

This is apparently a very cool store in our local mall. I was talking to one of the college girls and she was telling me to check out this store. I don't know for sure what all they have. I think they have bags and other accessories. And I'm pretty sure she told me they carry Ed Hardy products. But what I want to check out for sure is the sale rack towards the back of the store!

Cape Sagres

I've never been to Cape Sagres.

This point in Portugal is the edge of Europe. In Columbus' day, it was thought by those living there to be the end of the world. In the 1500's it was the site of Prince Henry the Navigator's school where men came to learn sailing, map making and navigating. Today, visitors can see what is left of Prince Henry's school; a large circle which may have been used as a wind compass to learn the direction the wind was blowing, or perhaps a tool for celestial navigation.

computer repair shop

I've never been to a computer repair shop.

My husband took my daughter's laptop in this week to a computer repair shop. The internal circuit board is shorted out. It is not worth repairing. The owner said he'd buy it for parts. He would only give us $20 for it. I think we should check out wholesale electronics to see about getting her a new one.

star cinema grill

I've never been to the Star Cinema Grill.

This is a special movie theater with a special menu. It is like a movie theater only you have tables built into your seat. You can order from a special menu that includes appetizers, entrees, sides, snacks and desserts. You can push a light to call your waiter any time. No children under five are allowed in the theater and no children or teens are allowed without a parent. They show new releases and tonight they even showed a local NFL football game on the big screen!

buying fruit trees

I've never been to buy fruit trees.

When we bought this house, the back yard contained several non-fruit bearing pear trees. I find that to be a real waste. I'd love to have some trees that actually bore fruit. We have talked about getting a lemon tree. I don't know how hard it is to maintain fruit trees but I wouldn't mind giving it a try. When the weather warms up there may be a possibility of looking more seriously into getting some kind of fruit or nut trees. The lemon is one I'd like to try. My neighbor has banana trees. My friend suggested blueberry bushes. Or maybe blackberry. I'd never even considered Mulberry trees. But I'd be willing to try any where we could eat the fruit!

turkey trot

I've never been to a turkey trot.

This is seemingly the name for any running event held Thanksgiving morning. This year at a local high school, there will be the first annual area turkey trot. It is a 5K event and the cost is only $5. And if you bring 5 canned food items, the fee is waived! We are looking forward to doing this event as it is cheap and close to home. And it seems to be a great way to start Thanksgiving morning.

Morocco

I've never been to Morocco.

Visiting Casa Blanca is something I know many people would love to do! I did not know that it used to be a pirate base and that it was also destroyed by an earthquake. It would be interesting to visit the Hassan II mosque, claimed to be second in size only to Islam's most important site, Mecca.

In the modern capital of Rabat I could visit the Palais Royal, the home of the royal family in Morocco, the Hassan Tower, the Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the Musee Archaeologique (Museum of Antiquities). Next, would be Meknes with the Bab El Mansour gate and its Corinthian columns. I can't forget Moulay Idriss, Fes, Rissani and the Merzouga Dunes.

Maybe I could even afford to buy some Moroccan furniture to have shipped back as a souvenir of the trip! Or if not, I guess I could find some Moroccan furniture here at home and save on the shipping!

I've never been to a half marathon before.

Neither have I participated in one. But I just signed myself up for one on New Year's Day! Yes, in just six weeks I will be running (jogging)/ walking 13.1 miles. This is only after one "trial" run of just over six miles. That is the most I've ever run before. But with the run(jog)/walk method I think I will be able to finish this New Year's Half Marathon!

You and your family can dine while floating past the lovely yachts and homes around the Clear Lake and Kemah areas. Partake of the delicious offerings of ham, turkey, stuffing and gravy, broccoli, candied sweet potatoes and assorted pies and cakes. Adult prices are $49 and children are $39.

I've never been to a motorcycle accident lawyer.

And I hope I never have to. My husband has had his motorcycle for nearly three years now. He has only had one time where he laid it down. And that was turning into a parking lot covered in leaves. He always wears a helmet, thankfully. That is one of my biggest requests. I know that one day it can happen-I've seen it happen too many times to people. I am thankful that there are motorcycle accident lawyers Los Angeles to New York. But I just hope we can avoid ever having to visit one.

Body Worlds 2

I've never been to Body Worlds 2.

I actually never saw Body Worlds 1 either! This is a fascinating look at actual human bodies preserved through "plastination". Plastination is a process where body fluids and soluble fats are extracted from a specimen and replaced through vacuum force with resins and polymers. This process, invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens allows viewers to see inside real human bodies and to learn about the function of a healthy body as well as the damage that can be done to it through chosen behaviors. All these can be seen at the Body Worlds 2 exhibit. There are over 20 whole bodies on display along with healthy and unhealthy organs, body pieces and slices. The feature display on our brain shows developments in brain function and disease and disorders, performance and improvement. Body Worlds 2 will be at Houston Museum of Natural Science through

Yep, even though I did vote yesterday, I missed out on most of the free treats offers! We went to Ben & Jerry's but they did not start giving out free ice cream til 5 pm and I could not come back at that time. And the place we thought was Krispy Kreme is now something else, so we guess they moved or went out of business. And I don't like coffee. So I got my free Starbucks and gave it to my son who filled it with plenty of milk and sugar! I guess it's a good thing anyway to have missed out on the doughnut and ice cream. I mean CLA only goes so far in helping to keep the fat off! So maybe some other day I will make it over to a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store!

But I got to see some of it from the road as I was driving by this weekend! The show took place this past Saturday and Sunday and was full of areal tricks and feats. My friends went to see the show. They said the re-enactment of Pearl Harbor was pretty awesome! Their four year old son loved the jet truck, which could go faster than an airplane! The air show was a great family event for my friends, though they did say it was LOUD! And the finale starring the Thunderbirds was pretty good too!

buy engagement rings

I've never been to buy engagement rings before.

That's right, I did not pick out the rings I wear on my left hand. I was still in high school at the time. My then-fiancee was home from college for spring break. We had talked about getting engaged and married in a couple of years. But while he was home, he made some money working. He went out and spent all the money he had-$200-on an engagement and wedding ring to surprise me before he went back to school!

I took good care to have my rings cleaned at first. Now, that particular jeweler is not even around. And my rings are bent and seldom ever cleaned. But they are special to me. They represent the love my husband has for me. They remind me of the young love we shared. And now as bent and misshapen as they are, they remind me of the growing love we share; we have been through some rough spots, but like the rings, our relationship remains in tact and the love remains true and unending.

Bayport Cruise Terminal

I've never been to the Bayport Cruise Terminal.

This new terminal was scheduled to open later this year. It was pushed into an early opening due to hurricane Ike. As there were folks on cruise ships needing to get home following the storm, and the port in Galveston was not functional, this new terminal welcomed those passengers back.

The new terminal is located in Pasadena, further up Galveston Bay, towards the Ship Channel. The terminal has a fresh airy look, with the silver and green reflecting the water of Galveston Bay. The terminal is to serve several cruise lines, and offer upgraded amenities to passengers. It is located closer to hotels, restaurants and both airports. There is plenty of room inside to help cut down on crowdedness and confusion. Screens will provide instructions and information. There are also VIP waiting areas.

You can see a five minute video on the new cruise terminal.

I have heard of these shoes before. I knew they are really good for your feet, for your posture and for comfort. I had seen some folks wearing them. And then last summer my aunt had them on at a family reunion. She said they are great (she's a nurse and on her feet all day.) She let me try them on. They felt good, but I did not really get the chance to walk around in them much. Then, my parents both got a pair of these shoes. They really like how they feel. As of yet, I have not invested in a pair. But it is nice to see some discounted pairs on the website. I also love the different styles available. You can get any of these great shoes in athletic wear, casual wear and even the ever popular Mary Janes.

I've never been to the Fred Hartman Bridge.

Yesterday on our way to Baytown, we crossed this memorable bridge. My cousin had said that we would see the pyramid like formation with yellow cables on it. He calls it the "McDonald's Bridge" because of the "M" look you see as you drive on to it. As we crossed over, my son remembered being on it last year on the way to a basketball tournament. He said that once you have been on that bridge, you remember it! As we crossed Galveston Bay, we saw several boats still washed ashore by hurricane Ike. Much work has been done in clean up efforts. I know the boat owners will be glad when they can get their homes and boats back into working order....

The fanciest TV I've ever seen is a pop up tv. We had gone to visit a financial advisor last year. My two young nephews were with us and they were delighted to see this piece of furniture in the office. They were captivated by the "magic TV" while we got our paper work done! I guess there are even folks who have these pop up TVs in their homes.

theater gutting

I've never been to a theater gutting.

But today I was saddened to see one in process. I went to visit the theater where my family has performed over the last six years. It is located at a community college and has been a place for many community members of all ages to perform. But due to lots of damage from Hurricane Ike, the theater is having to be gutted. It was sad to drive up and see the whole costume shop laid out in the lawn, bagged to be thrown out. Most of it is not salvageable due to the mold that has set in. They would not let me stay and help out; it is a health hazard and I would have to have a respirator to work there. But the spirit of the theater lives on. Although they did have to cancel the fall show, the auditions and performance of the Christmas show are still moving ahead. The performance will be at another branch campus. And all the damage assures that the college will basically be getting a new theater.

underwater wedding

I've never been to an underwater wedding.

My husband was watching a travel show tonight which showed an underwater wedding. It was not a scuba diving wedding, but one of those walks where you wear a helmet. The bride wore a bikini with a skirt. The groom and groomsmen actually had on suits underwater! The wedding took place in the Indian Ocean. The water was clear and the surroundings were gorgeous. The fish were swimming around for a really great effect. The minister held up signs and the bride and groom checked off their answers. They had a hard time with the kiss because of the helmets, but I think they had a great time with their underwater ceremony.

I enjoyed, and need to reinstate the ritual, of menu planning . I like the ideas of getting out of debt and getting away from credit cards . I was also surprised to see that the blog author had too been affected by hurricane Ike, many hundreds of miles away from where I am. I had thought of using candles for the most part and saving our flashlight for times when needed. Luckily, power has been restored and I can once again surf looking for interesting new blogs like Compgifts. And I am always interested in ways to save money!

hurricane evacuation

I've never been on a hurricane evacuation...this year.

After leaving for hurricane Rita, we were not too inclined to try that again. We stayed here for hurricane Ike. I know many people who did leave. It is so hard to try to decide what to take with you if you do decide to evacuate. You may come home to lots of damaged property or nothing left.

For dads, it seems the important documents might be enough to take with them. For moms like me, it's photo albums, scrap books, and necessary supplies like food, water, and our school books!

Kids are anxious about pets, toys and games. Teens will likely not leave behind any PS3 or game box, CDs, stereos and other electronic items.

I know that all this is just "stuff". If we do ever decide to evacuate again, I hope I will remember to keep that in mind....

Galveston after the hurricane

I've never been to Galveston after the hurricane.

I know many people were trying to return to see the damage done to their homes. I am afraid that there were also some trying to go over just to see the devastation. On Tuesday, Galveston mayor had issued a "look and leave" policy that Galveston residents could come back to the island to view their property and had to leave again by 6pm. The response was enormous! It seems that more than expected tried to return. The freeway was backed up for miles as folks tried to return from as far away as San Antonio. Work crews could not get back to help with clean up and power restoration. And trying to get thousands of folks off the island by 6pm was nearly impossible. The mayor and city officials had a hard time enforcing the "look and leave". Even if they would have posted exit signs, I doubt people would have responded! It was another traffic mayhem that evening. The next day, folks were not allowed in, in an effort to keep order and continue the clean up and recovery process. Hopefully the next time they let folks come back will be an easier process.

This is another small community on Galveston Bay that Ike pretty much destroyed. I know the flooding from the storm surge did a lot of damage here too. Within the space of just a few minutes, I had virtually visited Olympia National Park in Washington, Glacier National Park in Montana, Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming and the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. I would love to see these and many others in real life. Maybe one day I can. If I want to see them and the others, I can order the PBS video Timeless.

buy a bus

I've never been to buy a bus.

But my dad has. There have been several times in his work as a church minister that he has searched for a bus for sale. Funny, he was reminiscing just the other day about one trip in particular where it took three buses to get us home from church camp! Ours broke down, another one that we had borrowed broke down, and then we found a third one to get us home! Hopefully, he has better luck these days getting good buses and vans for his church trips!

Student Ambassadors

I've never been on a Student Ambassadors trip.

My son has received an invitation yearly since he was starting sixth grade. We have never allowed him to go, although the programs look really fabulous. As there will be another meeting coming up in our area, he received another invitation. I looked at the website again today. There are trips for high schoolers to Japan, China, Australia and several countries in Europe including England, France, Belgium and Ireland. Maybe the time is right to look more seriously into letting our son be involved in world travel as a Student Ambassador.

business trip

I've never been on a business trip.

I have been blessed to be able to stay home with my children and find work to do from home. I know that there are many moms and dads who are spending lots of time traveling these days. It is just part of their job. For them, they have many worries while leaving their family at home. One of the least of these should be business related life insurance rates. For business travelers, this should be one of the farthest things from their mind while traveling.

Little Graceland

I've never been to Little Graceland.

This Elvis museum is located in Los Fresnos (named for the "fresnos", the ash trees.) It seems to be a privately owned collection. The owner served in the army with Elvis while stationed in Germany. Open on weekends, visitors can see a large collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia, photos, watches, more. During the year, there are also Elvis impersonator contests.

Nederland

I've never been to Nederland.

Some good friends of ours recently packed their moving trucks for Nederland, so I am sure there will be a time that I make it over to this "Dutch settlement".

In the 1800s, Arthur Stillwell constructed a railroad from Kansas City to Lake Sabine. Since his financial backing came from Holland, he chose to give many of the towns along the line Dutch names. Some Dutch came and settled in Nederland, as did folks from all over the U.S. Today in this small Texas town, when I go to visit my friends, I will likely want to stop by and see the La Maison Des Acadiens Museum which pays tribute to the French settlers who came from South Louisiana. Also I would like to stop by the Windmill Museum. This museum was built to preserve the Dutch heritage. Here there is a windmill with 25 foot blades, artifacts from the town's early days, memorabilia of singer Tex Ritter who lived some time in Nederland, and the 1952 Olympic gold medal won by Nederland native W. F. Buddy Davis.

Indian Island

I've never been to Indian Island.

But this past week I was transported to this small island off the coast of England. The island is shaped like a man's head. I don't know if this island exists anywhere outside of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. In the book, it is a very small island where a series of ten murders take place, with no murderer to be found! It is an amusing book that will take you to Indian Island and right into the middle of the suspense.

buying a memory stick

I've never been to buy a memory stick.

Now this is not a flash drive like I thought. This is what you use for cameras and video games to add memory. I know that in video games, extra memory is important. I learned this when my son first bought a used game console from a friend. His friend kept his memory stick. So if my son wanted to play and be able to save his games, he needed the extra memory. If you like to do the same, extra memory sticks will be important to you to. Luckily, they are fairly affordable and can even be purchased refurbished.

Toyota Center

I've never been to the Toyota Center.

This is the newest stadium in Houston and the home of the Houston Rockets, Comets and Aeros. It was finished in 2003 with the first event hosted being a Fleetwood Mac concert! The stadium can hold from 18,000-19,000 people, depending on the event. Tomorrow I will go there for the first time.

My son and I have been chosen to be “extras” in a commercial tomorrow! Now this is not just any old commercial. This is an Adidas commercial! And we will get paid to go watch some of the Houston Rockets! The pay is very small, but it’s only a few hours and my son is so excited!!

I've never been to see Frost vs. Nixon.

This is a play coming to Houston in October. I just ordered tickets for my son and I. It is based on the televised interview in which David Frost elicited an apology from Richard Nixon. I don't remember much about Watergate and my son is intrigued by it. I think it will be an informative show that we will both enjoy.

I've never been on an Around the World Cruise.

While I was going through some travel sites today, I came across some awesome looking Around the World Cruises. These itineraries look amazing! Some start in Europe, some in the states, some in Australia. I would love to take one of these slow boats to China, or anywhere, and everywhere, else in the world. One that caught my eye starts in Los Angeles and end in Dubai. I know that a trip like this takes a good deal of budgeting and planning, but just maybe one day, I will be on one of these Around the World Crusises!

There is dancing under the stars, Gymboree classes, Nature Workshops and every Thursday is Green Market. At Discovery Green you will find a lake, gardens and a misting "water tree". Even though some will be worried about their appearance-their hair, their acne, their clothes-I think overall they will have a great time. When else do you get to have professional photos made for free? And it will be a neat way to remember current youth group members. I bet upcoming kids will want to add their photos to the wall when they get into high school.

World War II Museum

I've never been to the World War II Museum .

I was talking to a friend today. She mentioned how much her daughter enjoyed visiting this museum. I stopped by the website to check it out. The museum chronicles WWII from the Normandy invasion to the Pacific Islands. There are exhibits to interest all members of the family. Right now there is a special exhibit entitled "Hollywood and WWII". It shows how Hollywood stepped in to dramatize the war effort for folks at home. This coming weekend will be filled with activities like a Sound of Music sing along, a film on WWII Newsreels and a "Sunday Swing". This should be lots of fun for all museum goers.

The Stoop

I had never been to The Stoop before.

The Stoop is a section of the blog Joboja which is chock full of loads of information. I looked through some of the past posts at The Stoop. I enjoyed reading some in particular. I was interested in what other parents had to say about Batman , since I let my teenager see it. I found it interesting what Beijing is doing to clean up its air pollution and wonder why they don't stick with such a plan regularly. And got a good laugh reading about George Bush running for a third term in office !

Then I decided to check out some other sections on Jojoba. There are several that I found interesting. I looked at the contests and then headed over to the travel section . There are several there that I'd like to read. I am going to read through the compelling reasons for travel .

I really like the diversity of this blog. It is filled with current events, fun, information, and more! It looks like there are often guests authors as well. This is the kind of blog I could spend some time at reading lots of different posts. Maybe that's why he provides a stoop on which to linger...

Maybe I'll see you one day at The Stoop.

Better World Books

I had never been to Better World Books before.

I found this book site last night. I really like what I saw. I love to buy books. I especially love to buy books at bargain prices. When I found good prices at Better World, I was happy. Then I was even happier to find that there are no shipping charges in the U.S! (only $2.97 worldwide!) Then, not only was I happy, I felt good about what I was doing.

See, Better World Books not only provides customers with great books to read, they are doing something to make this a better world for everyone. They provide books to Africa. They donate books and money to other literacy projects as well. They also provide carbon off sets for each item shipped (we're only talking a few cents per book.)

So far, I like everything I've seen about Better World. Stop by and check them out for yourself. Making this a better world is something

Last month, there were lots of skaters and non-skaters alike both checking out the new facilities. Many skaters from the area made the trip to see it and will now be making regular trips to the island to enjoy the newest skate park. It is a great place for kids to get together to practice their skate techniques and a good place for kids to stay out of trouble.

There are museums like the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry. The Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium would be fun too. Of course the Art Institute of Chicago and the Lincoln Park Zoo are not to be missed. Some of Frank Lloyd Wright's earliest buildings are in Chicago. Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper, with three of the five tallest buildings in America-the Sears Tower, the Aon Center, and the John Hancock Center. I had never been to Sybervision Reviews before.

But I know there are many folks trying to get their health on track. For them, this site might prove to be valuable. It is filled with reviews of diet pills, including consumer reviews.
With so many diet pills on the market it seems like it would be hard to find which is best and right for a particular individual. And don't forget, none of these will be as effective without a proper diet and exercise. That is going to be some of your best defense in maintaining a proper weight.

Friendswood Driving School

I had never been to Friendswood Driving School before.

I've been looking around for a local driving school for my son. I had searched online for local schools, but only one had a website, and it is a 40 minute drive from here! So I decided to go over to one only about 15-20 minutes away to check it out. We walked up to the door to see the website printed there, which I had been unable to find in my internet searches! We got the class schedule and prices. My son's friend went with us. One thing that was a real advantage for him is that the owner is his former track coach! That sold our friend! I like that they offer several different class times, that the owner is familiar with working with teens, and that they offer the Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness certification. At first my son balked at that, saying that neither he nor his friend do that, so why did they need it? I told him because it offers additional savings on insurance. They even allow adults to take the course to help save on their insurance as well!

the novel to save the world

I've never been to a personal blog whose mission is to save a country.

I just came across a blog today whose author is actually in the process of writing a novel with the mission of saving Uganda, Africa! Talk about big plans!! This author has posted each chapter on his blog using a link to the downloaded files. The novel is free to read, but he was smart enough to get it copy righted. You can download chapters 1-10 and then follow the links for the rest of the chapters. There is even a link to donate to World Vision, a well reputed non-profit organization, to help raise money for poor children. (I am not sure if this is linked directly to Uganda or not.)

While I have not read the novel yet, I like this blog's approach. The author sees a need and is doing what is in his power to do. If we all take steps to do what we can to help out our neighbors on this earth, it will be a better place for all of us to live.

Thousand Oaks Ranch

I had never been to Thousand Oaks Ranch before.

We just spent nearly a week there. It is a really nice camp ground. The campus is perfect for the camp we used it for. We were so blessed to be able to bring in our own staff. This makes it more affordable for our kids to attend as well as making sure things are run the way we want them.

This campground is located just outside of Corsicana, TX and is owned by a church in Dallas. We would love to be able to use this facility again and hope that it will be used by many in the future. It was a nice place to bring our campers.

There are four cabins each for boys and girls. There are also two other houses on site. There is a dome with a gym and stage area, as well as locker rooms and a large bed room. There is a ball field, sand volleyball courts, a lake with canoes, and a swimming pool. It seems as if this camp ground has so much potential. It is perfect for kids camp. It also seems ideal for family reunions and could be used as a shelter in emergencies.

There are regularly scheduled family activities at the museum as well. You can meet authors and attend book signings, every Saturday from 1-4 there is a free family activity, there are summer camps, and once a month there is an ArtWalk.

Patrons of all ages love viewing the artwork from some of their favorite books. Grandparents love sharing their favorite stories with their grandchildren. Teachers love bringing classes here for a field trip. Families enjoy spending time browsing the artwork and participating in the many family activities.

Blue Lagoon Diving Lake

I've never been to Blue Lagoon before yesterday.

Yesterday, we went scuba diving in a lake just north of Huntsville, TX. This lake, or really two lakes, is known as Blue Lagoon. Is was made just for divers so there is no need to worry about boaters. We drove up and spent nearly the entire day at Blue Lagoon. When we got there, the attendant said they were nearly full and there were no shelters available. We did not realize you could reserve these ahead of time or we would have (though we are still not 100% clear on if individuals can reserve these or only dive classes.)

We drove around to where our instructor had recommended us to go. It was pretty full but we found a vacant spot. Just as we got everything unloaded, a group came saying they had reserved this spot. (It was not a sheltered area) So, we threw everything in the truck and parked in the shade and started unloading. We decided we would just put everything in the water and leave it at the edge between dives. This worked out pretty well, but luckily, the group in the shelter next to where we were was just finishing up and gave us their shelter!

The water was warm, calm and pretty clear (though as the day wore on, visibility grew less.) Even though they were full, we found it not to be a problem. We never felt too crowded by other divers or swimmers (you can apparently go to just swim.) We were in a really nice spot to play and swim between dives. The kids (and us) had fun swimming, snorkeling and jumping off the rocks.

The lake is really pretty and was a great place for us to get in some good practice and gain some confidence in our new adventure.

Although there are no wildlife to see underwater, we enjoyed the clear water and we did see two sunken boats. We even scratched our names onto one. We enjoyed the whole day and hope to return again.

Lasik has come a long way over the last ten years. I guess it's just possible that it could work for my husband.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

I've never been to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on stage.

But early next year, Broadway Across America will be bringing this production to us! This looks like a wonderful family show to see. It follows the story line of the 1968 film based on Ian Fleming's book. Well known and loved songs will be included and it is said that "you will believe a car can fly"!

high school carnival

I had never been to a high school carnival before.

Last week, my son's school hosted a carnival during the school day for the students. I had/have mixed emotions about sending him to school for one big play day. But he had a really great time. There was a dunking booth for students to dunk teachers. There was a boxing ring for students to duke it out with teachers. There was face painting, softball pitching, basketball tossing, a cake walk and many other fun booths for the students to stop by and enjoy. There was also lots of fun food for the kids. Pizza, sausage on a stick, snow cones, sodas, even Chinese food. All in all it was a fun day and a nice way for the students to let down a bit and enjoy themselves.

Rendezvous Boutique Hotel

I've never been to The Rendezvous Boutique Hotel.

This all inclusive resort is the first St. Lucia boutique hotel exclusively for couples. No kids or singles will be around to distract from the romantic atmosphere. It is a tropical paradise awaiting couples to re-discover just what made them a great couple in the first place. Whether you are celebrating an anniversary, a honeymoon, or are just looking to add a spark back into your relationship, the Rendezvous sounds like an excellent place for couples to re-connect. Be sure to pack your bags for a romantic tryst with your partner, throw in the the massage oils, the nurse costumes or other lingerie, and whatever else you need to rekindle the romance.

Neighborrow

I've never been to Neighborrow before.

Today I was reading through Jerseygirl's blog . I came across this post about social borrowing . Well, since I love to save-I'm thrifty, ok, cheap-I thought I would check out the website . I love the idea. Basically, you expand your neighborhood across the internet so you can find folks to lend, borrow and swap things with.

Allergy Buyers Club

I've never been to Allergy Buyers Club.

We don't have much problem with allergies in our home, but I know many people who do. I think that for my nephews, certain products could make a big difference in their allergies. At Allergy Buyers Club, there are hundreds of products to help a home provide allergy relief. Here, products like dehumidifiers, mold removal products, Electrolux vacuums, bedding and bath items, and much more can be found. These things can help to reduce the allergies that many people suffer from right in their own home.

Athens Scuba Park

I've never been to the Athens Scuba Park .

I just learned about this diving lake located in Athens, TX. The website looks great! The water looks nice. Spring fed warm water, visibility averaging about 35', 25' deep, 12 docks and lots to look at. There are about 30 underwater wrecks to swim through, there is a Greyhound bus, a double deck houseboat and a C-140 Jet Star plane! There is a fully stocked dive shop on site from which to rent gear as well as tanks. There is camping RV sites available, a pool and hot tub, and bath house too.

Circuit City Coupons

I've never been to shop with Circuit City coupons.

I do love to save money. And my kids do like Circuit City. So that would make a great combination. The kids would love to look at the electronics, mp3 players, stereos, TVs, movies and games available. And if I can get the stuff they want and save money at the same time, I think we would all leave happy!

Anne Frank on stage

I've never been to see Anne Frank on stage.

This past weekend, I was able to see a production at a local junior high. I must say that I was impressed with the young cast. To see their poise throughout such a show was really a treat. They did a really nice job of putting on the show. I like how some of the emotion was heightened during the show, both by the small theater and the use of speakers and pre-recordings. I enjoyed the show, as much as one can enjoy such a show, and perhaps one day will see these kids perform again.

air conditioning parts

I've never been to buy air conditioning parts.

I do know that if my AC in my car went out, we would definitely want to replace it. It just gets too hot in the summer around here to be driving around with no air conditioning. I know that in the "good old days" folks did just that, but I do not think that would work for me. I guess if my ac compressor goes out before my car (approaching 200,000 miles!) I will definitely want to have it fixed.

Prince Caspian

I've never been to see Prince Caspian.

This second in the Chronicles of Narnia films was released over the weekend. My nephews have seen it and said it was good. Not like the book of course, but good. They plan to see it again too. Last week my oldest nephew read a quote from USA Today that said this movie is "darker and more mature" than the previous one (Lion, Witch and Wardrobe.) Still I am hopeful that this will be a good movie that the whole family can enjoy.

natural acne treatment

I've never been to use natural acne treatments.

But for any teen, whether those constantly on the go, or those who stay close to home, acne treatments can be important. I was just commenting to my son this weekend how much his acne has cleared up. Of course, he feels like his is the worst around. I noticed one acquaintance of his whose has gotten pretty bad. I know my son is happy that his own has cleared up, even in the last six months or so. It is hard to find just the right treatment for any individual. Whenever possible, I like to use natural products. Finding a natural acne treatment that is strong enough to fight the worst acne and still be good to the skin would be the ideal.

the moon

I've never been to the moon.

But now I can send my name! That's right, NASA is offering the chance for people of all ages to send their name to the moon! Using the website , you can have your name placed on a microchip that will be integrated into the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, spacecraft. Now I can be a part of the lunar exploration journey and have my name in orbit around the moon for years to come.

sightseeing tours in Orlando

I've never been on sightseeing tours in Orlando.

If you have read some of my recent posts, you know that we spent some time in Orlando recently. This was actually my third trip to Orlando. Each time we have gone, we have gone to spend our entire vacation at a major theme park. I know there are actually other things to do in Orlando and the surrounding area, but we just have never had to time to take them all in!

I know that my daughter plans on us going back to Orlando sometime. So if I was going to make a list of all that I'd like to see, besides Disney World again, I know that there are a lot of things to choose from. A sightseeing tour might be fun. But since I don't know much about what is available outside of Disney, I could turn to a trusted source like Trusted Tours & Attractions to find what other things to do in Orlando that would interest me and my family.

And while I am dreaming about family vacations, I might check some of their other pages to find other vacation ideas. Whether we decide to look for Things to do in New York City or things to do in Los Angeles , I know that I can find many great ideas on this one website. I can also sign up for the free newsletter to get more great ideas, as well as a chance to win a $150 iTunes gift card .

Blue Lagoon

I've never been to Blue Lagoon.

I just learned about this diving site last night. This diving-only lake is located in Huntsville, TX, about 65 miles north of Houston. It was built and is used only for diving classes and open water divers. There are actually two lakes for divers to enjoy. Accommodations are taken to help keep classes together and confusion to a minimum.

Upgrades to the site are always in progress. They are looking for more wrecks to sink for open water divers. The most inviting thing about Blue Lagoon is the clear water. It has been said that Houston area divers think the only place to go for clear water diving is Cozumel, Mexico. Many have been surprised by the clear water of Blue Lagoon. The water here stays clear because of the low pH, brought about because the water is filtered by the pine needles that surround the low land area of the lake. This lowers the pH, keeping the water free from algae, making visibility clear. They have tried to raise the pH before to bring in fish, but the algae became a problem. They decided the trade off for clear water was worth it.

blogging makes me happy!

I had never been to a blog before November of 2006.

And now I do not go many days without visiting a blog or two. I have been asked many times why I blog. I guess at this point I have to just say that blogging makes me happy! Now you may wonder just how blogging can make me happy. I would like to share a few things with you.

First, blogging allows me to meet new people from all over the world. I have met Sire from Australia and his mate hutriver from New Zealand. I have met Sue who now lives in Charleston but is from Switzerland. I have met folks from closer to home too. There are Merry and Beth from Chicago, Trick Falls from Atlanta and Montucky from Montana. Peregrine Online keeps me trekking the globe with her travel blog.

That is another great thing about blogging. I can take virtual trips to anywhere. I have been to Cuba, South America, Singapore, China, Australia and Montana all without packing a bag. I can visit anywhere just by checking out other people’s blogs.

But one thing that really makes me happy about blogging is when I really get to go somewhere, all because of blogging! That’s right! Because of the money I have made with my blog we are able to take a family trip! This year, we had planned on either Disney World or a cruise. Being able to take my family on fun and fabulous trips all because of my blogging really makes me happy!! :)

Disney Race

I've never been to a Disney Race.

Apparently, there are several races in Disney World throughout the year. I knew they had a marathon length race, but did not know about the others. We were at some friend's house tonight. They just got back from doing a 5K in Epcot. There is a 15k (I believe) in October. Some other people were looking through a pamphlet listing all of Disney's races. Maybe one day we will be able to join in!

Franchise Gator

I've never been to Franchise Gator.

I am not sure that I would ever want to invest in a franchise business. Maybe a nation wide health food grocery store. I sure do wish there was one closer to our town. I wonder why they are only in the larger Metropolitan areas? I think there would be a good clientèle here. I know that I would love to shop there if it was closer and more convenient. If it ever turned out that I truly wanted to pursue that, I could look into the info provided by Franchise Gator to see what it would take for me to get one here.

Twin Lakes

I've never been to Twin Lakes.

This is another local diving lake. It is only about 18 minutes south of Houston. It is an old rock quarry that had been turned into an RV camp. Later, the diving was added. There are five boats and an old bus underwater. There are also platforms about 15 ft. down. This allows classes to do their initial open water dives and have a place to perform their newly acquired skills outside a pool.

SD card

I've never been to purchase a new memory card for my camera.

But both my sister and my husband have taken care of me in this area. Anytime I travel, I want to be sure I take my camera. I love to take pictures, and I need to take a lot of them. Taking a lot of photographs ensures that I will get a least a few really good ones. I try to be sure that I will come home with some great photos to look back on later. I am careful to be sure and pack my recharger and my SD card as well. It does not do much good to take my camera if I don't have a way to keep it running or a way to store my images. When I travel, I want to bring home the best pictures that I can.

Mammoth Lake

I've never been to Mammoth Lake .

This is a newly opened lake for scuba divers in the area. Here they found the tusk and skull of a mammoth, along with remains of a five foot armadillo and giant sloth. They have added some features for underwater viewing.

Each section of the lake will have a theme. There is a Bus Stop with old buses to view. There is a space themed area with an F-5 fighter jet and other NASA remains. There is also the old Looping Starship ride from Astroworld.

Another Astroworld attraction has found a new home in Mammoth Lake. Some track from the Mayan Mindbender can be found here. There will be a Bermuda Rectangle and a Jurassic area as well.

The dive site was opened as a need was seen for local divers. Many people living here on the coast get certified to dive, but then had no where to go. This new lake will house a full service dive shop as well as give lessons and do the open water dives all on site.

drug rehab center

I've never been to a drug rehab center.

I hope my own kids will be able to say the same thing.I heard on the news just this morning about teen drug use, particularly teens' use of marijuana. They stated that the percentage of teens using marijuana is down 25% from recent years. That means fewer teens experimenting with marijuana and likely other drugs as well. That would lead me to believe that there would be fewer teens in drug rehab.

Soarin'

I had never been on the Soarin' ride in Epcot.

But we were able to enjoy this attraction on our most recent trip. We all loved it! We got our fast pass for Soarin' at noon and it was not good until 7:30 pm and the passes were all distributed by 1:00. Right now it seems fast passes are a "must" for Soarin'. It was fun but I would not want to wait 110 minutes for it (that is how long the line was!) Even our fast pass line was about 30 or 40 minutes.

The Soarin' ride was a fun one for us all. (well, my husband was a bit disappointed.) You sit in a seat and are raised up off the floor. You watch a film and feel as if you are soaring over California. You take in sites of Yosemite, The Golden Gate, and many others. You end in Disneyland for a firework show! This was a big hit with people of all ages.

Mars

I've never been to Mars.

But last week at Epcot, I took a virtual trip to the Red Planet. In Epcot's Future World, there is the attraction Mission Space which simulates a trip to Mars.

My daughter and I were a little unsure about it all. It was set up with two lines, one with intense training and one with mild training. We decided to go ahead and experience the intense training. We were separated into teams (four per team, so our family was together) and put into simulators. (It is a little weird feeling to be getting into a ride where barf bags are provided!) We watched a movie and felt as if we were being blasted into space!! Each of us had different assignments and had to push the proper buttons at the proper time. Our team landed a successful mission to Mars on this trip!

Religious Jewelry at Jewel Elegance

I've never been to Jewel Elegance.

This site makes shopping for elegant jewelry easy. They even offer a nice selection of religious jewelry. After my son was baptized he got a ring with a cross on it. Many people like to keep a religious icon close by and religious jewelry is an easy way to accomplish this. It makes for a good reminder of the meaning of the cross of Christ.

Rock N Roller Coaster

I had never been to the Rock N Roller Coaster before.

But last week we could not get enough of this ride! A few years ago, my son wanted to do it, but just could not work up the courage. This trip, we were all determined to do it! After debating about whether to use fast passes or wait in line, a lady handed us her three fast passes. The kids and I went through the fast pass line while my husband went in the single rider line. Our wait was cut in about half the time of the regular line. We opted to use the single rider line every time after that.

The pre-show gets old as you have to go in to watch a film of Aerosmith before boarding the ride. Once on, the countdown begins! You go from 0 to 60 in about two seconds! The first thing you do is a flip! This coaster is housed in the dark like Space Mountain, but is a much better and smoother ride! It is fast! There are street signs lit up by black lights throughout the ride. There are speakers in your seat's headrest playing Aerosmith songs throughout the ride as well. This is a great roller coaster that I did not mind riding over and over again.
