heather on her travels

I had never been to heather on her travels blog before.

As I have been really slow in my blogging these days, I missed a comment a few days ago about heather and her time last year sleeping near a smoking volcano ! I cannot even imagine. But this seems to be the MO for heather. She is a world traveler and her blog on her travels is really lovely. I can't wait to head back and check out some of her older posts.

Vienna

I've never been to Vienna.

Vienna is a charming old city, filled with music from composers like Beethoven, Strauss, Brahms, Schubert, Haydn and Mozart-who all lived and composed here. There are the Opera House and the Philharmonic in which to hear more performances than any other city in the world. There are the Vienna Boy's Choir, the Lippizaner Stallions at the Spanish Riding School, and the Ringstrasse.

And you can easily and quickly get to Germany via Austria. Airlines are offering special packages and prices to help save time and money on great German/Austrian holidays. You can even check the "happy hour" page to bid for flights.

Finding Hotels in Vienna and Hotels in Berlin is easier than ever. Being able to compare prices and check availability, even doing so in Deutsch, makes booking those Hotels in Vienna and Hotels in Berlin faster and easier, leaving more time for sight seeing.

Puerto Rico

I've never been to Puerto Rico.

A part of the U.S.,....it's geography is greatly varied over the island. Palm-lined beachs, caves, forest preserves-the only tropical rainforest on U.S. soil, rugged mountains. The mountains formed from volcanic activity. While the highest peak towers above the island, just a ways off, is the Puerto Rico Trough, one of the deepest depressions in the Atlantic. If the base of these mountains were at sea level, it has been said that they would tower over Mt. Everst!

York

I've never been to York .

York has been known as the spiritual capital of the North. York is located about two hours, by rail, north of London. It is a wonderful, year-round get-a-way.

There is much to see and do in York . Starting with Yorkminster , you can visit the Medieval Gothic Cathedral. You can see eight-hundred years worth of stained glass windows here. You can view the sights from the tower top.

Another great place to visit is the original viking-age city of Jorvik . Here you can learn what life was like in this area thousands of years ago when the fierce vikings roamed the area.

If you'd like to experience the creepy, be sure to visit the York Dungeon . Here you will see 2000 years of gruesome history. Everything you see here really happened in that time and place.

Las Vegas

I've never been to Las Vegas.

An oasis in the desert. Sin city. The city that never sleeps. A place to go to blow a few bucks. A constant party going on. Shows and lights and continuous activity. A place to go and watch adults at their leisure. Maybe catch a few shotgun weddings.

Egypt

I've never been to Egypt.

An ancient land filled with many wonders of the world to see. Pyramids, desert sands, the Nile River, the Sphinx. A land that once held captive the nation of Israel. A land filled with exotic mystery. A land which has been led by the likes of Ramses, Cleopatra and Tutenkamen. A land steeped in antiquity, and yet still very much alive.

Alaska

I've never been to Alaska.

A rugged land filled with natural undisturbed beauty. A land filled with bears, and wolves, and moose and oceans filled with whales. A land where sleds could be considered a form of normal transportation. A land purchased as one man's folly. A land where eagles can still soar and rivers run free.

The Great Passion Play

I have never been to the Passion Play in Eureka Springs, AR.

Located near Branson, MO. the play runs from April through October. It depicts the last week of Christ's life including Palm Sunday, A Day at the Temple, The Last Supper, Trial, Death, Entombment and Resurrection. I cannot imagine the amount of work required to put on a show of such significance and the demands on the actors. The setting of the theater is an outdoor ampitheater built into a hillside of the Ozark Mountains. It seats over 4000 people and is roughly the size of two football fields.

Panama Canal

I have never been to the Panama Canal.

I did not realize the way the canal system through Panama works until just recently. The canal is made up of locks and gates. As a boat passes through one gate, the water fills up and the next gate is open. I hear they even have cruises going through the Panama Canal these days.

Mt. Rushmore

I've never been to Mt. Rushmore.

I read that they are just cleaning it. I've even heard that they have the faces of dead presidents carved into a mountain there. I don't know how those 4 guys can live together day in and day out... after having run the whole country! We can't get these 2 parties to agree on anything, much less live together carved in stone till the end of time.
