Just across the border from Texas, Matamoros is a favorite day trip for U.S. citizens. At the International Bridge, you can park your car for about $4 a day. This is something many tourists opt for, avoiding the required car insurance if they bring their car across the border.
In the Main Plaza you will find a moment of tranquility within the bustling city. On one side of the plaza you can visit the city hall. On the other side you will find the cathedral. Don't miss the Benito Juarez Mercado. This is a favorite with visitors and locals alike. It is about five blocks long and you can find just about anything you want to buy here.
